Simon Trenerry moved from rural New South Wales to study finance at The Australian National University (ANU) – and found the opportunity he was looking for in the ANU Student Managed Fund (SMF).

As the Fund’s Chief Risk Officer, Simon led the team that monitors the portfolio, critiques other teams’ investment theses within the SMF, and keeps the fund’s operations sound.
His advice for other students from regional and rural backgrounds?

“Do not feel disadvantaged when applying to ANU because you’re from a rural background. With direction and determination, you can become just as competitive as anyone else, or even more so.”
