From UC to Community Legacy

What an incredible story from UC Stars Hockey Club, recently recognised with the Chief Minister’s Gold Award.

For Suzi(UC Alum '04) and Susan (UC Alum '75), this wasn’t just about the award it was about reflecting on over 50 years of impact, connection, and community built through the University of Canberra.

From students finding their place in a new city, to lifelong friendships, careers, and even families formed along the way UC Stars is more than a club. As Suzi shared, “it’s become a real family club.”

Both alumni credit UC as a key part of their journey shaping careers, building networks, and creating opportunities that lasted well beyond graduation.

Their advice to new graduates:
Get involved. Say yes. Build connections.

Because sometimes, the most valuable part of university isn’t just what you study it’s the community you become part of.
