Our next UC Alumni Book Club read was written by one of our own.

Before Garth Nix became one of Australia's best-loved fantasy authors, he was studying a Bachelor of Arts in Professional Writing right here at the University of Canberra.

This Friday, 9 October, the UC Alumni Book Club starts reading Sabriel, the 1995 novel that launched his acclaimed Old Kingdom series. It's a story of courage, family and finding your own path, and it went on to become an international bestseller.

It's a proud reminder of where a UC degree can take you, and the perfect excuse to pick up a classic.

The UC Alumni Book Club is free and online, with about two months for each book, so it fits around work and life. Join a community of fellow alumni who love to read and connect.

It's easy to keep putting off a screening appointment, or to feel unsure where to go for sexual health advice. This October, UC Alumni is hosting an open conversation with BreastScreen ACT and the Canberra Sexual Health Centre.

In this one-hour Lunch & Learn you'll:
• Get a clearer picture of breast screening and how to access BreastScreen ACT
• Learn about the sexual health services available in Canberra
• Find out about cervical screening self-collection and who may be eligible
• Know where to go for advice and support

The last 15 minutes are set aside for your questions.

Brining our alumni back to where it all began!

The UC Alumni Lounge at Open Day on 12 September was filled with connection, nostalgia and plenty of special moments.

Our memory wall brought so many stories back to life from meeting lifelong friends in a first week tutorial to the simple ritual of grabbing a coffee before an early morning lectures. It was wonderful hearing moment, big and small that made UC feel like a second home.

We also had graduation gowns available for alumni to relive their graduation day or finally capture a graduation photo they may have missed due to restrictions, online study, or simply life getting in the way. Seeing those proud smiles were incredible special. Some families had multiple generations come together for a photo in their graduation gowns.

Thank you to every alum who visited, shared a memory, and reconnected with the UC community. We loved welcoming you back and hope to do it all again.
