UNSW Canberra CRICOS Provider Code 00098G Welcome to UNSW Canberra at the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA). UNSW Canberra is part of a significant research institution.

UNSW Canberra’s mission is to support lifelong learning through innovation and engagement whilst leveraging our location to build meaningful relationships across Defence, industry, government and academia. We are a prestigious Australian university college of the University of New South Wales, with a unique focus on defence and security. Here, ADFA trainee officers combine a degree from UNSW with

their military and leadership training. We offer a range of high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate programs as well as professional short courses. These cover a range of disciplines within arts, business, engineering, IT and science. All our courses are designed and taught by top researchers and defence industry specialists who address real-world problems. We provide postgraduate research and coursework programs to the general community available by distance, intensive or on-campus. Applications for these programs may be made by Australian citizens/permanent residents, New Zealand citizens and international full-fee paying students. UNSW Canberra educates future leaders of the Australian Defence Force with a balanced and liberal undergraduate education, to compliment their military training. Undergraduate students are mostly midshipmen of the Royal Australian Navy and officer cadets of the Australian Regular Army or the Royal Australian Air Force. Students studying at UNSW Canberra gain all the advantages of studying with one of Australia’s largest, most well-established and research-intensive tertiary institutions. UNSW Australia is a member of Australia’s Group of Eight (Go8) institutions and a member of Universitas 21.

From breaking a Guinness World Record for hula hooping for 100 hours to navigating life with multiple sclerosis, UNSW Canberra alumna Jenny Doan knows a thing or two about resilience.

At this year’s University Lecture, Jenny shared her lessons on adaptive leadership, personal growth and finding your way through the “messy middle”.

Students even had the chance to try hula hooping for themselves after asking Jenny questions about her experiences.

Thank you to Jenny for an inspiring and very entertaining evening.

Veterans bring a wealth of skills, experience and knowledge to our communities, but transitioning from Defence into further study is not always straightforward.

What can glowing purple paint tell us about high-speed flight? Quite a lot💜

UNSW Canberra researchers have been working with Defence Science and Technology Group and Lockheed Martin using pressure-sensitive paint to better understand airflow near the speed of sound.

Under ultraviolet light, changes in the paint’s brightness reveal changes in pressure across the model , with UNSW Canberra researchers helping turn that information into valuable insights about high-speed airflow.

“Leadership isn’t measured by the positions we hold. It is measured by the opportunities we create for others.”

Today, our Rector and Dean, Professor Emma Sparks, gave a keynote address on leadership at the Women Unlimited Leadership Summit, organised by The Hatchery (Hub).

From dreaming of becoming a tennis coach, to becoming a sports scientist, a systems engineer, an academic and ultimately a Rector and Dean, Emma reflected on a career that has been anything but linear, and the value of lifelong learning, embracing unexpected opportunities and lifting others along the way.

Her message was simple: Lead. Learn. Lift.

Lead with courage. Learn without limits. Lift others as you rise.

There’s plenty happening at ADFA Open Day today! 🎓

We’re enjoying meeting so many future students and their families as they stop by to chat with our UNSW Canberra team.

Choosing the right degree is an important part of planning what comes next, and Open Day gives students and their families the chance to talk face-to-face with our academics and staff about their options and what studying at UNSW Canberra could look like.

Thanks to everyone who has stopped by for a chat so far, and to our wonderful staff for sharing their knowledge and expertise throughout the day.

Great ideas need the right environment to grow💡

For Cognitive Advantage, that environment was UNSW Canberra Launch.

Starting with a single desk at Launch, the Canberra-based company has grown to deliver mission-critical connectivity for defence, emergency services and disaster relief – while creating valuable industry opportunities for UNSW students and graduates along the way.

It’s a great example of what UNSW Canberra Launch is all about: connecting industry, research and students to turn ideas into real-world impact.
