Demo: Sewing Machine

The Sewing Machine is a popular tool in the MakerSpace but sometimes it is hard to know where to start. In this demonstration we will show you how to set up and operate the machines. Stitch selection, length and tension will be covered so you know how to choose the correct one for your fabric.

After the demonstrations, participants will have the opportunity to test out their new knowledge with supervision.

🌟Demo : Personalising with vinyl ✨
Thursday, 30th April 4pm.

Unravel the wonders of MakerSpace tools with our demos designed to empower our members. If you've ever been curious about using a particular tool but feel unsure where to begin, fear not - we here to guide you every step of the way.

The vinyl cutter and heat press are a great set of tools that can be used for a wide range of sticker making and textile application. This demonstration will show users the process of personalising a tote bag or t-shirt with vinyl using the Cricut vinyl cutter and heat press.

This session will include an induction for the heat press.

We’re excited to welcome the Einstar Rockit 3D Scanner to our tool offering!
The 3D scanner is an orange tool, so an induction is required before use.
For those who’d like a deeper, hands-on demonstration of how the scanner operates, we’re running a dedicated demo session.

Unravel the wonders of MakerSpace tools with our demos designed to empower our members. If you've ever been curious about using a particular tool but feel unsure where to begin, fear not - we here to guide you every step of the way.

This demonstration aims to demystify the process of using the Nomad CNC, showing participants the basic steps including preparing the file and starting a part on the Nomad CNC.
If you have wanted to enter the world of CNC machining, this is where to start. This session is for Inducted MakerSpace Users.

Starting this Thursday, join us for relaxed drop‑in sessions where you can bring along any sewing, knitting, crochet, embroidery or other textile project. Don't miss the opportunity to learn, socialise, and enhance your textile skills! We look forward to seeing you there.

✨Makerspaces Australasia Symposium 2025✨

In November, we were thrilled to host the annual Makerspaces Australasia Symposium!
Over 80 makerspace legends from 30+ organisations across Australia, Hong Kong, and New Zealand came together to share knowledge, solve challenges, and grow this incredible community.

We rounded out the 2 days of collaboration with the worlds first ever* MAKERLYMPICS. Attendees competed head-to-head in maker challenges to determine the most well rounded maker in 2025.

Thank you to everyone who came and contributed, we couldn't have done it with out you.

Ben was selected at the 2024 School of Art and Design Graduating Show as the ANU MakerSpace EASS Residency recipient and undertook his residency in the first half of last year.
During his residency, Ben worked on his set for his stop motion animation. We can't wait to see the final product!

The ANU MakerSpace is very excited to be hosting the 4th Annual Makerspaces Australasia Symposium on 27–28 November, a two-day event celebrating innovation, collaboration, and hands-on learning across academic, community, and institution-run makerspaces. The symposium is aimed at professional and academic staff that work in makerspace facilities.
