Scam Awareness Week 2026 runs from August 24 to August 28.

Scams Awareness Week is a national campaign dedicated to helping recognise, avoid and report scams. Each year, it brings together government, businesses, community and consumer groups, educational organisations and individuals to raise awareness and strengthen our collective defence against scammers. By working together, we can help ensure everyone stays safe from scams.

This year’s theme, ‘No one’s just a number’, reminds us that behind every scam report is a real person - a parent, friend, neighbour or colleague - whose money, time or trust has been stolen.

Scams can happen to anyone, and being targeted by a scammer is never a reflection of a person’s intelligence or character.

Scammers use pressure, trust and convincing stories to make people act quickly, but 3 simple steps can help.

✅Stop before you share money or personal information
✅Check who you’re really dealing with using contact details you find yourself
✅Protect yourself and others by reporting scams to your bank, cyber.gov.au, and Scamwatch

Remember if you think you, or someone you know, have been targeted in a scam, ANU is here to support you and you are not alone. If you think the scammer has your bank account details, contact your bank or financial institution as soon as possible.

Finally, if you are targeted, reach out to the Student Safety and Wellbeing Team. They can provide you with support and advice, and can also assist you in making a formal report of the incident.

We want to hear from you! It's survey season for Australian university students, and over the next few weeks you'll hear from a variety of organisations looking to better understand your university experience, and how it could be improved. 🌿

Whether you want to provide feedback about what you've enjoyed most, have some constructive criticism that could make you feel safer around campus, or anything in between, it's important to give complete and honest answers.

Your feedback will shape a better university.💛
