This week we are highlighting the Campus Centre which has been a staple of University life for 62 years. Construction began on the Campus Centre, originally known as the Union building, in June 1963 and it was completed by the end of 1964, with many alterations taking place over the subsequent decades. Please enjoy this small selection of photos of the Campus Centre spanning the 1960s to the 1990s, and if you’d like to see more, head to the link in our bio.

On this day 40 years ago in 1986, Monash University opened celebrations for its Silver Jubilee. Events began with a ceremony at Robert Blackwood Hall, attended by His Royal Highness, Prince Philip, Duke of Edingburgh, who presented medals to staff who had served at the University for 25 years. The ceremony also involved the conferring of honorary degrees on six individuals, including the Duke of Edinburgh who received an Honorary Doctor of Science. For more information about the Silver Jubilee celebrations, see the link in our bio.

50 years ago in 1976, incoming Dean of Engineering, Professor Lance Endersbee, did something a little different - he literally sailed in to his new job! On the 7th of March Professor Endersbee launched his home-built 31 ft. racing cruiser ‘Margarita’ from Hobart and made his way to Melbourne to take up his new appointment. This journey was also special in another way, being the maiden voyage of ‘Margarita’ which Professor Endersbee and his four sons built themselves over 12 months.
