That’s a wrap on the 2026 Road Safety Management Leadership Program!

Our final day brought the week’s learning together, with our co-facilitators Associate Professor Carlyn Muir and Claire Campbell once again leading the cohort through practical activities focused on navigating complexity, influencing change and turning learning into action.

We were also joined by a fantastic group of guest speakers and panellists, including Jerome Carslake, Keith Govias and Rahman Shafi, who shared insights into system-wide road safety gains and opportunities for collaboration and change. Chris Hayes and Tim Cu***ng also shared a practical case study on influencing change within a complex organisation.

The day culminated in participants discussing their action plans before receiving their certificates of completion and officially closing out an intensive week of learning, leadership and connection.

The celebrations continued with a networking dinner at RACV City Club, featuring guest speaker Glenn Weir, former Assistant Commissioner, Road Policing Command, Victoria Police.

A huge thank you to Carlyn, Claire, our guest speakers and panellists, and of course our 2026 cohort for making it such a valuable and engaging week. Congratulations to everyone!

Yesterday, our Road Safety Management Leadership Program cohort explored how narrative can build support and influence change, guided by our co-facilitators Associate Professor Carlyn Muir and Claire Campbell.

The day brought together storytelling, media, policy reform and practical strategies for navigating the barriers to change. Participants also had the opportunity to hear from our expert panel members Antonietta Cavallo, Liz Waller and Trent Rhodes, who shared valuable insights and practical experiences of leading and implementing change.

A big thank you to Carlyn, Claire and our panel members for an engaging day of discussion, reflection and practical learning.

With three days down, the cohort is well on its way to building the knowledge, skills and connections to lead meaningful road safety change. One day to go!

Day three is underway!

Today, our Road Safety Management Leadership Program cohort is taught insights and expertise by our co-facilitators, Associate Professor Carlyn Muir and Claire Campbell. The day focuses on using narrative to build support and influence change in road safety.

Participants will explore the power of storytelling, how road safety issues are framed in the media, and how to communicate evidence in ways that build understanding and support for change.

The afternoon will turn to the barriers to change, with practical examples from road safety leaders, interactive activities and discussions focused on navigating opposition, planning for challenges and mapping the barriers facing change in participants’ own jurisdictions.

It’s set to be another day of practical learning, discussion and reflection - with plenty for our cohort to take back to their own road safety work.

That’s a wrap on day one!
After a day exploring evidence-based road safety decision-making, our cohort wrapped up with a visit to Road to Zero: Road Safety Experience at Melbourne Museum, developed by the TAC in collaboration with road safety and education experts and drawing on decades of TAC research.

Thank you to the TAC for providing an immersive opportunity to explore the science behind road trauma and what it takes to create a safer road system.

The day finished with refreshments and networking, giving participants the chance to connect, share experiences and reflect on the challenges and opportunities facing road safety in their own jurisdictions.

A great start to a week of learning, leadership and collaboration. Stay tuned for more from the program!

The 2026 MUARC Road Safety Management Leadership Program is officially underway!

We’re excited to welcome this year’s cohort of road safety leaders as they come together for four days of expert insights, leadership development and thought-provoking discussions focused on creating safer roads for all.

Day one is already underway, and there’s plenty more to come. Stay tuned for highlights and insights from the program throughout the week!

Researchers are calling for better fatigue warnings for new parents, with research from the MUARC revealing 9 in 10 have driven while fatigued in the past month.

The study surveyed 1,160 Australian parents with at least one child under 12 months of age to better understand how disrupted sleep affects driving behaviour and road safety.

Participants reported an average of just six hours of sleep per night and generally poor sleep quality, with almost all reporting sleep disruption due to parenting responsibilities.

Lead author Associate Professor Sjaan Koppel, Associate Director of the Behavioural Science team at the MUARC, said the findings highlight a gap in how new parents are supported to manage fatigue behind the wheel.

Congratulations to CLOCS-A on receiving the Heavy Vehicle Safety Award at the 2026 Australian Road Safety Foundation Awards, a fantastic recognition of its leadership in improving safety across Australia's construction logistics sector.

We're especially proud that the MUARC supported National Road Safety Partnership Program - NRSPP, played a foundational role in the creation of CLOCS-A and continues to support the program as part of its advisory and governance group.

From its origins as an NRSPP-led initiative to the nationally recognised program it is today, CLOCS-A is helping create safer interactions between heavy vehicles and vulnerable road users through industry collaboration and best practice.

How do injury risks change for men across the lifespan?

The latest edition of Hazard from the Victorian Injury Surveillance Unit (VISU) examines more than half a million injury-related hospital admissions among Victorian men over a ten-year period, revealing how injury patterns evolve with age and highlighting opportunities for targeted prevention.

From transport injuries among younger men to falls in older age, the findings provide valuable evidence to inform policy, prevention and healthcare planning.

Yesterday, we were proud to join the Minister for Health, The Hon. Harriet Shing MP, at Northern Health to celebrate the launch of a landmark partnership between Monash University and Northern Health to help prevent occupational violence and aggression in healthcare.

It was fantastic to see Associate Professor Carlyn Muir representing the Monash University Accident Research Centre (MUARC), sharing how this collaborative research will bring together expertise from MUARC and Monash Nursing and Midwifery to better understand the complex factors that contribute to violence in healthcare settings.

By taking a systems approach, the partnership aims to generate evidence that supports safer workplaces for healthcare workers and drives meaningful, long-term change across the health sector.
