The life of our former Principal, Sean Brito-Babapulle, will be celebrated at St Dominic’s Chapel, Mannix College, this Friday, 28 August at 2.00pm, followed by a reception in the Mannix Dining Hall.

Today, Mannix celebrates the life of our former Principal (2012–2021), Sean Brito-Babapulle, who sadly passed away on 19 August 2026, aged 57.

Sean was a warm, generous, and joyful man who spent almost forty years bringing people together and helping young people make the most of university life.

For nine and a half years, Sean led Mannix, but this was also his home. He knew our students, remembered their names and stories, and took a genuine interest in their lives. His sons, Nick and Alex, grew up as part of the College, with Nick later returning as a Mannix resident himself.

Sean brought a great deal of joy to Mannix, and we remember him today with sadness, gratitude and enormous affection.

Our love is with his partner, Sara, his sons, Nick and Alex, and all who loved him.

May he rest in peace.

Great colleges are built across generations. Each cohort inherits something special, adds to it, and passes it on stronger than they found it.

Today, Principal Andrew Swan has shared a personal letter to our community announcing that he will conclude his five-year term at Mannix on 18 December 2026, before commencing as Head of College at University College, The University of Melbourne, in 2027.

The College Council will shortly commence the search for Mannix's next Principal.

Andrew's connection with Mannix runs deep. He first arrived as a resident, later served as President of the Mannix College Students' Society, President of the Mannix Old Collegians' Association, and ultimately as Principal. It was also at Mannix that he met his wife, Sophie, and where they have raised their family.

In his letter, Andrew reflects on the privilege of serving as Principal and, above all, expresses his gratitude to the generations of College Council and Foundation Council members, students, staff, alumni, volunteers, donors and governors whose stewardship has shaped Mannix into the community it is today, and who will continue to lead it into the future.
