Wishing our Jewish students and staff a happy, peaceful and prosperous new year!
Jewish communities will be celebrating the high holidays over the coming weeks starting with Rosh Hashanah which starts at sunset today, Friday, September 15 and ends at nightfall on Sunday, September 17.

This special festival marks the start of the Jewish New Year. It is customary to reflect on the previous 12 months and traditional customs include blowing of the shofar (a rams’ horn), attending religious services and sharing festive meals with family and friends.

On Thursday this week is RYOK? Day. Jay and Caulfield campus are starting a couple of days early with some yummy donuts, stress balls and quest the quote game. Come and join Jay outside building K between 11am and 1pm today Tuesday!

🌙 Ramadan Kareem to all those observing as this holy month begins 🌙

Wishing you a fulfilling season of fasting, thoughtful reflection, peace, community and good deeds.

May you experience peace, reflection, refreshment and joy throughout.

The Islamic calendar follows the phases of the moon, commonly known as the lunar cycle. As a result, the Holy month of Ramadan falls approximately 10 days earlier each year in the Gregorian calendar. The Ramadan start date for 2023 is expected to begin on Wednesday 22 March, following the sighting of the moon over Mecca. Lasting for 30 days, Ramadan will end on Friday 21 April, with the celebratory days of Eid al-Fitr starting on Saturday 22 April or Sunday 23 April.

It is a month of self-reflection, inviting a person to break their fast with you is a big part of the celebration, given that Ramadan is about coming together. The practice of fasting during Ramadan serves spiritual and social purposes.
