The Ora Banda UWA Wedgetails competed in the International Mining Games in Tucson, Arizona last week and delivered a strong performance, finishing 6th out of 21 men’s teams in a highly competitive field.

The team showed grit, determination, and true Wedgetail spirit throughout the competition, taking out 1st place in Suede Saw and Hand Mucking, 3rd in Track Stand, and 4th in Hand Steel. The Wedgetails were the only men’s team to secure two first-place finishes and ranked best overall across the core four events (Hand Muck, Saw, Hand Steel, and Track).

While not every event went our way, it was a standout effort from the entire team.

Competing in hot, tough conditions, the Wedgetails rose to the challenge and left everything out there.

A big thank you to the University of Arizona School of Mining Engineering and Mineral Resources for hosting an outstanding event, and to our incredible sponsors who made this opportunity possible:

Last Thursday marked the annual Engineers vs Geologists King of the Pit mining games competition. A massive congratulations to the engineers Gneiss team who took our first place overall, with the engineers also taking the overall competition victory! Shoutout to Ean Broun and Kimi Zhou who won the inaugural Jemima Reid Spirit Award for their hard work and dedication displayed on the night. Every person competed exceptionally and we’re excited for the prospects ahead of nationals in semester two 🦅 ⛏️
