We are proud to share a meaningful milestone for the Bangladeshi Students Association at Charles Darwin University (BSACDU). 🇧🇩

Executives of BSACDU had the privilege of meeting with CDU Vice-Chancellor Fiona Coulson, representatives from the Bangladesh High Commission Canberra, and CDU stakeholders to discuss the experiences, challenges, opportunities, and future development of Bangladeshi students at Charles Darwin University.

During the discussion, BSACDU presented the current needs and aspirations of our student community, advocating for stronger support, greater opportunities, improved engagement, and meaningful representation.

At BSACDU, we believe representation is not simply about having a seat at the table, it is about bringing the voice of our community to that table and working towards meaningful outcomes.

The occasion also featured a traditional Bengali Nakshi Kantha, proudly showcasing Bangladesh’s rich heritage, craftsmanship, and cultural identity. 🇧🇩❤️

We understand that some members of our community may have recently come across news regarding an incident involving a Bangladeshi student in Darwin.

We would like to clarify that the incident occurred around seven months ago, and the recent coverage relates to the conclusion of the legal proceedings. Since the incident, the Bangladeshi Students Association (BSA) has remained supportive of the student, assisting with accommodation, safety, emotional support, and helping him feel comfortable during a very difficult time.

We are grateful that the legal process has now been concluded, with the offender receiving a four-year sentence. The student has also received $1,600 in restitution towards his financial loss of approximately $4,500.

We encourage everyone not to be alarmed by the recent coverage. The matter has been addressed, and our community continues to support and look after one another. ❤️🇧🇩
