💉 🩸 🐎

Learning skills on animal models is important for students to gain confidence and practise in a safe, non-time constrained environment. This will help with confidence and ability when later attempting this skill on a live animal as vet nurses and vet techs.

We all have to start somewhere and practise makes perfect!

'KEN' our horse model is utilised for the equine elective but we also have a varied number of species/animal toys on hand that have been modified for vet nurse and tech training! 🧠

Fun fact: 📔 Blood is primarily taken from the jugular vein in horses because it is a large, superficial vessel that allows for quick, easy, and safe collection of large blood volumes.

Located on both sides of the neck, this vein minimizes risks of hemolysis (blood cell destruction) and is ideal for administering intravenous medications or placing catheters.

We couldn't be prouder of our 2025 BVN graduates.

It is one thing to have the privledge to teach about what we love most but a whole other privledge to be able to do so to such an incredible group of people.

Getting to know each of these students as individuals and being a part of their ups and downs for three very intense years (filled with tests, prac exams, literature reviews, essays..the dreaded research report, practical handling days, placement and much more) truly drives our passion for teaching and vet nursing in the BVN staff.

To our vet nurslings, who are now Bachelor of Veterinary Nurses. Thankyou for allowing us to be your mentors. We will genuinely miss your quirks, vibrant energy and classroom laughter.

You are the upcoming passion, empathy and change the Veterinary industry needs. It has been a blessing to witness and be a part of your journey - and we can't wait to see how you continue to thrive and succeed.

Now, its your turn to go off into the world and be kick ass Vet nurses.... we officially have nothing left to teach you 😢

2025 was the biggest year yet!
We couldn't be prouder of the 2025 BVN graduates.

Your hard work and determination has led you to the grand success of graduating today.

You've spent countless hours caring for animals, researching, completing assessments, tests, prac exams, exams, attending lectures, placements and so on but now it is time to be proud of yourselves and look back at how far you have come.

You are now officially Bachelor level Veterinary nurses and we are so thankful to have been a part of your learning and your journey.

You are the passion, empathy and future of Veterinary Nursing.

Today, VNCA President Asha Yeoman attended the Veterinary Workforce Data and Governance Roundtable in Canberra.

This roundtable examined pathways forward in workforce data collection, which could guide potential solutions into workforce shortages, retention and attrition, emergency animal disease preparedness strategies and broader industry planning.

The VNCA extends its sincere thanks to Dr Beth Cookson (Chief Veterinary Officer), Dr Bronwyn Orr (pictured, left), and the Taskforce for the invitation to participate and contribute to this important discussion, ensuring veterinary nurses and technologists are represented in this critical national conversation.
