A huge congratulations to Stacey Thomson aka Ranger Stacey (Associate Diploma in Rural Techniques ’84) who was awarded the Gatton Gold Medal at the 2026 UQ Alumni Awards!
The Gatton Gold Medal recognises Gatton alumni for their outstanding achievements in their fields.
Awarded for advancing environmental education and conservation awareness through 4 decades of leadership in media and wildlife advocacy, Ranger Stacey has become one of Australia’s most recognisable voices for wildlife and conservation.
Ranger Stacey became one of Australia’s most recognisable television wildlife presenters through her role as host of Totally Wild. Across its 29-year run, she introduced generations of young Australians to nature and conservation, along with an international audience – with the program broadcast in more than 60 countries.
“I am passionate about sharing my knowledge, engaging audiences, sparking curiosity and inspiring children to care for the environment. There is something very special when someone tells me how I inspired them to pursue a career as a scientist, vet, researcher or environment educator. I am proud to have raised awareness across generations of Australians,” Thomson said.
A remarkable career and inspiration to all! Congratulations Stacey 👏
