As part of World Pharmacist Day, we're shining a light on alumni Mark Stuart OBE, who forged an unconventional pharmacy career in sports and anti-doping becoming the first pharmacist appointed to the International Olympic Committee's Medical Expert Group

Mark shares his inspiring journey from studying pharmacy at the University of Sydney to seizing unique opportunities and becoming a pioneer in shaping sports pharmacy as a specialist field globally.

The journey has taken him to 12 Olympic Games and five Commonwealth Games, alongside numerous other international sporting events. Mark continues to advocate for the sports and anti-doping work internationally, as the Head of the Academy of the International Testing Agency.

Would you know how to spot trustworthy health information online?

Researchers at the University of Sydney have helped develop Australia’s first-ever National Health Literacy Framework, providing a nationally coordinated approach to help people find, understand and use reliable health information. Led by Professor Kirsten McCaffery and the Sydney Health Literacy Lab, the framework aims to support better health decisions, improve access to care, and strengthen health outcomes for all Australians.

We’re more connected than ever. So why are so many of us feeling alone?

New research led by Dr Neta Hagani found that social isolation in Australia has nearly doubled over the past two decades, with young Australians experiencing the most substantial increases in loneliness.

Senior author Professor Melody Ding said social connection should be viewed as a public health issue, and that some vulnerable groups may need additional support to maintain meaningful relationships.

How accurately is social media portraying Alzheimer's blood tests?

Social media promotion of Alzheimer’s disease blood tests is on the rise, particularly posts making claims that do not align with current clinical recommendations.

A new research highlights the importance of evidence-based health communication as public interest in these new tests continues to grow.

Lead author Dr Jenna Smith from the University of Sydney’s School of Public Health and the Sydney Health Literacy Lab explains the findings come at a time of growing public interest in Alzheimer’s blood tests, including their recent introduction in Australia in a new research.
