Trauma-Informed Practices in Career Development Conversations & Counselling Sessions
Suitable for all experience levels, all working environments and all qualifications. Trauma-Informed Practices in Career Development Conversations and Counselling Sessions is a two-day professional learning program that explores how trauma can influence an individual’s confidence, motivation, trust, and ability to engage in career thinking and decision-making. The workshop supports career practitioners, advisors, and counsellors to develop greater awareness, empathy, and intentional care when working with clients who may have experienced trauma. Participants learn how to create safe, respectful, and empowering environments where clients feel supported, heard, and in control of their own narrative.
The program focuses on practical trauma-informed strategies that strengthen communication and counselling practice without diagnosing or treating trauma. Topics include trauma responses, grounding techniques, pendulation, the Window of Tolerance, reflective questioning, body language, communication approaches, and practitioner self-awareness, alongside role plays and case studies for both young people and adults. By embedding principles such as safety, trust, collaboration, and empowerment into career development work, practitioners can foster more inclusive, meaningful, and effective client outcomes.
