The UOW Diplomacy & Foreign Affairs Society (WUDFA) is a new, rapidly growing collective of students with an interest in all international matters. We aim to facilitate insightful deliberation of the dynamic and complex aspects of international law, foreign affairs and diplomacy by encouraging members to participate in networking events and commentary through social media.

This week we will be debating European financial stability, where participants will represent member countries in the European Stability Mechanism 🌎 In particular, we will be examine the debt burden of the French government💰

Join UOW’s School of Social Sciences at a Politics and International Studies Public Talk THIS THURSDAY.

Elliot Stein has worked at the senior levels of government, politics and the for purpose sectors for two decades. He is a former Chief of Staff to Cabinet Ministers in the Federal, NSW and Queensland Governments. He served as Director of Public Diplomacy to the Australian Consulate-General in New York and as Director of Government for UNICEF Australia. Elliot has been published in the Australian Journal of Public Administration and holds a Masters Degree in Public Policy and Governance. He is from Thirroul where he continues to live today.

West Papua is facing significant human rights and environmental challenges. So why aren’t we talking about it?

For decades, Indigenous Papuans have experienced conflict, displacement, allegations of serious human rights abuses, and significant environmental impacts.

WUDFA invites you to a special screening of Pig Feast (Pesta Babi): Colonialism in Our Time, a documentary exploring the environmental impacts of development in West Papua and the experiences of Indigenous Papuan communities seeking to protect their lands and livelihoods.

Following the screening, join us for a Q&A with:
- Dandhy Laksono, investigative journalist and director of Pesta Babi
- Koteka Wenda, International Spokesperson for the Free West Papua Campaign
- Ronny Kareni, human rights advocate

The panel will be chaired by UOW student Alex Eagleton, whose current research examines human rights issues concerning West Papua.

For students interested in international, environmental or human rights law, this is an
opportunity to hear directly from those working on these issues.

Hello everyone, just a reminder that the Wollongong Diplomacy and Foreign Affairs Society (WUDFA) in-partnership with the UOW Asia-Australia Youth Association (AAYA) will be hosting the incoming Deputy Ambassador to Indonesia, Moya Collet, who is a former UOW graduate, on the 24th August for a conversation about life in the diplomatic service and to discuss Australia’s relationship with Asia. The conversation will be held in Building 20. Looking forward to seeing you there!
