Kickstart Your Career with Ignite at Western Sydney University

Western Sydney University is now recruiting for the 2026 Ignite Indigenous Traineeship Program.

The program offers a one-year opportunity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participants to gain paid work-experience within university operations while gaining a Certificate III in Business.

We are very excited to share that our programs, Heartbeat & Pathways To Dreaming, have been announced as finalists for the Engagement Australia 2024 Excellence Awards in the category of Award for Excellence in Indigenous Engagement.

Across the two programs, our programs work with over 4,000 Indigenous school aged students from Years 3 through to Year 12 to build their cultural knowledge and identity, whilst also building their aspiration to participate in higher education after high school. We also assist the students to uncover their unlimited potential and discover the study paths that await them at Western.

This announcement is recognition of the hard work of the many staff involved in these programs since their inception, of the staff currently in the team and of the deadly work done in these programs, and across Western, to help mob enter into Higher Education.

We look forward to the announcement of the winners in November 2024!

The Centre provides an opportunity for local students to pursue higher education and provides access to a high tech enabled space. Can you inspire Indigenous primary and high school students across Western Sydney towards University? This may be the role for you – the Future Student Engagement Unit are looking for current students to work as Student Ambassadors in our programs. The Indigenous Engagement team in Future Students delivers primary and high school programs to Indigenous students across Western Sydney.
You’ll meet other students from across the University, receive full training to help you develop key skills to support events and activities for school students, and give back to the Western Sydney community. Please see the link to apply now. Applications Tuesday 5th March 2024.
