Last week, our local community organisation Skillz4Me celebrated an incredible 10 years of impact, supporting children with disability and their families to connect, grow and thrive.

At SGSCC, we know just how important inclusive communities are. While our organisations support the community in different ways, we share something pretty special: celebrating people of all abilities, recognising individual strengths and creating opportunities for everyone to be included.

Congratulations to the whole Skillz4Me community on this wonderful milestone. Here’s to the next 10 years of connection, inclusion and possibility! 💙

Tomorrow night is a very special milestone as we come together to celebrate 10 incredible years of Skillz4Me! 💙

For a decade, we’ve been creating opportunities for children and young people with disabilities to connect, build friendships, develop skills and experience the joy of being included.

And tomorrow night, we’re celebrating the people who have made this journey possible – our participants, families, dedicated staff, volunteers and wonderful supporters.

But this isn’t just a celebration of the past 10 years. It’s also about what we can achieve together in the next 10!

🎀 October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

This month is a reminder of the strength that exists within our community.

We stand alongside those living with breast cancer, those undergoing treatment, survivors, families, friends and everyone supporting a loved one through their journey. 💗

Let’s continue to look out for one another, start conversations about breast health and show our support, not just this month, but all year round.

Together, our community is stronger. 🎀

🌧️ A change of plans turned into a great day out! 🎨
With the wet weather putting the riverside walk on hold, our Men’s Explorer crew headed into Martin Place for a day of art and discovery at the museum.
From exploring modern art to getting hands-on with tactile exhibitions and sensory rooms, there was plenty to see, experience and enjoy. A great reminder that sometimes the best adventures are the unexpected ones!

💙 What a fantastic day at the Sutherland Shire Youth Mental Health & Wellbeing Expo!

Our CEO, Bernadette, along with SGSCC Managers and our Student Support team, were proud to be part of this important community event, connecting with local services, young people and families.
It was wonderful to hear the Welcome to Country from Aunty Deanna Schreiber and opening remarks from Carmelo Pesce - Mayor Sutherland Shire Council, before a day of valuable conversations around youth mental health and wellbeing.

We loved sharing a stall with The Recovery College, connecting with the community, and welcoming a visit from our WHO students throughout the day.

A big thank you to Caringbah Rotary and headspace Miranda for delivering this important event, with a special shout out to Rod Rutledge for doing a fantastic job as MC.

Together, we’re helping build stronger connections, greater awareness and better support for youth mental health and wellbeing. 💙

🎓 Hospitality Business Challenge

The BYS Group has been putting their learning into action as they work towards completing nationally recognised Foundation Skills units.

As part of a hospitality business planning project, students were challenged to create their own café concept and explore what it takes to run a successful business. Working together, they identified the tasks, responsibilities, equipment and resources that would be needed to operate their business, putting their knowledge and problem-solving skills to the test.

Their project, the RTO Hospitality Café, encouraged creativity, teamwork and practical planning while helping students build confidence and develop skills for future employment and further training opportunities.

Well done to the BYS Group on their enthusiasm, collaboration and commitment to learning! 👏☕🌟

🏉 What a game!

Last Sunday, the Score Sharks took on the undefeated Score Dragons at halftime of the NRLW Grand Final in front of 47,000 fans, securing an impressive 4-4 draw with a try on the final siren.

A huge congratulations to our Disability participant, Patrick, who represented SGSCC with pride, passion and a big smile on the day. 👏
