The Short Course “Leadership for Responsive Public Administration” is a trilateral collaboration between Australia, Laos and Vietnam and includes 2 weeks of intense learning in Australia.

This week, the participants visited the Queensland Fire & Emergency Services Headquarters to learn about professional public administration in Australia. The group spoke about a range of issues relating to emergency response management, including policy setting, decision making processes, volunteer workforces, and women in leadership.

Through the benchmarking visit, the senior leaders will be able to apply this on their respective areas and ongoing in collaboration with QUT International Projects Unit and Laos Australia Institute.

What a phenomenally happy week!

I am delighted to share that Dr Josette Biyo has been appointed as an Adjunct Professor at QUT. She is the first Filipino to be given such appointment. It’s been a great honour to work with this inspiring leader, who strongly advocates for STEM education, and has been creating leaders in the field. This is very well deserved!

Coincidentally, last night, my team, QUT International Projects Unit, has received Service and Initiative for the Advancement of the STEM (SYSTEM) Award for our work in promoting STEM Education. I dedicate this to my amazing team! Thank you, Philippine Science High School System , @ Department of Science and Technology. We value our partnership.

Congratulations!

Welcomed our high level delegation from Laos with a MasterChef Challenge on Queen’s birthday. The theme was: ’Aussie BBQ with a Lao twist’. The participants worked in teams to produce a plate. They made delicious Lao dishes out of Australian ingredients from Woolworths!

We learned three things: one, they are all amazing cooks; two, Lao dishes are yummy; and three, it is awesome when you consider your context when doing a benchmarking program.
The winning team of this MasterChef Challenge made finger foods, which they called ‘virgin hug’ 🙂

This program focuses on leadership for responsive public administration, and will be featuring Australian leaders and organisations in the next two weeks. Delivered by QUT International Projects Unit, -and supported by Australia Awards

Leadership is about seeing opportunities amid adversities.

Congratulations are in order for the Bangladeshi leaders as they successfully completed a two-week intensive Australia Awards learning program at QUT. The program exposed the leaders to the key elements of the Australian VET system.

Coming from various agencies in Bagladesh, the participants developed very practical return to workplans (RWPs) turning adversities into opportunities. Each team named themselves after the key focus of their action plans: quality assurance, sharing, dissemination, empowerment, industry engagement, and inclusion.

To cap this journey with a reminder of the need to foster entrepreneurship and innovation to address the demands of the future, the last day of the program featured QUT Entrepreneurship, where they met with the Pro Vice Chancellor, Professor Rowena Barrett and Associate Professor Glen Murphy.

We are excited to see the impacts of their projects!

21 Bangladeshi leaders have finally arrived in Canberra for the Core Learning phase of their course on “Strengthening Leadership and Management in Bangladesh’s TVET Sector”. The program focuses on giving the participants an in-depth appreciation of the VET system in Australia, including the quality assurance system, partnerships and industry engagement mechanisms, inclusion initiatives, and sector-wide strategies.

This visit perfectly coincides with the forthcoming Jobs & Skills Summit happening in Canberra this week!

Wishing them a meaningful journey in Australia for the next two weeks!
