Kevin Hoffman Walk: An Aussie native garden walking trail, east side of Hovells Creek, Lara, Victoria

This tranquil trail, which is approximately 900 metres in length, stretches along the east side of Hovells Creek between Station Lake Road and Flinders Avenue in Lara. It was created by Lara resident Kevin Hoffman back in 1970 and over the following 40 plus years, he landscaped and beautified the area, creating a walk that is filled with numerous Australian native plants and indigenous vegetation.

With supporters along the way, Kevin has created a walk that locals and many visitors far and wide have enjoyed and will continue to enjoy in the years to come.

A simple tip that makes a big difference!

Light can completely change a photo.

✴️ Early morning
✴️ Late afternoon.
✴️ Soft shadows.
✴️ Golden tones.

These are the moments when the Walk reveals its magic.

Some photos cannot be rushed.

One of Kevin Hoffman’s greatest strengths as a photographer was patience.

He took time to observe, wait, and notice the right moment before pressing the shutter.

✨ This beautiful image, captured by Ethan Grills, quietly reflects that same patience in action.

Wildlife photography often requires stillness, timing and persistence, qualities that can reveal some truly magical moments along the Walk.

A great team effort at the Walk!

Recently, we were joined by a fantastic group from Lara Health & Fitness Centre for a collaborative working bee.

With 11 from LHFC and 4 from FKHW, the team rolled up their sleeves and got to work, moving 6 metres of toppings to help top-dress sections of the paths.

It was a beautiful morning for it; great weather, great energy and a wonderful community spirit throughout.

After the work was done, everyone enjoyed a well earned BBQ with Beverley, taking the time to relax, chat,and connect.

🌿 Partnerships like this play such an important role in supporting the ongoing care of the Walk, and we are so grateful for the involvement and enthusiasm shown by the LHFC team.

📸 Final Snap, Chat & Stroll with Elisa

Join us for the final event in this special series and this time we are meeting later in the day to enjoy the beautiful golden evening light along the Walk.

Local photography enthusiast Elisa Banas will guide a relaxed one hour wander through the Kevin Hoffman Walk, sharing simple tips and creative ideas along the way.

Whether you use a phone or a camera, this is a wonderful chance to slow down, look closer, and experience the Walk through a photographer’s eye.

With our 2026 Photo Competition now open, this stroll is also the perfect opportunity to gather inspiration and perhaps capture a future entry.
