Great work by the West Coast Financial Literacy Project , rolling out more practical resources for the community. 👏

Last week, we ran our first primary program, and this week we’re starting our high school sessions. Last year, we launched the Money Confident book and from this, we’ve developed a series of modules to deliver in high schools.

The first session focuses on Tax File Numbers (TFN). Students will learn how to complete an application form, as well as how to fill in and check TFN declaration forms, spot common mistakes, and understand what can happen if the form is incorrect. We’re really excited to see how students respond to this session.

Thank you Tasmanian Community Fund and Bank of us Tasmania for your strong support of this project, which has helped us create community-led, place-based programs and resources.

We’re hearing reports of scammers offering ‘quick cash’ to young people and students in exchange for access to bank accounts or identity documents.

Scammers offer several hundred dollars, sometimes with additional commission, for the use of bank accounts.

Identity documents such as passports and driver licences are also being sought so criminals can open fraudulent accounts in victims' names.

Scammers contact young people via social media platforms, messaging apps, and even in person near university campuses and student accommodation.

"Selling or 'loaning' your bank account or identity puts you at risk of being linked to money laundering and other crimes.

If you think you’ve been targeted by a money mule scam, get in touch with our team as soon as you can so we can help take steps to protect your accounts.

Big Plans aligns with financial literacy content in the Australian school curriculum but, as Dr Paris Buttfield-Addison from Secret Lab explains, it’s designed for children and carers to enjoy together. The idea is that small lessons and everyday conversations about money build into stronger financial confidence over time.

A big congratulations to Bonnie Triffitt, who received a People at the Heart of Banking award. Her professionalism and commitment made a huge impact during a year in which we invested in new roles for the Bank.

Recruitment activity over the period nearly tripled - and Bonnie not only kept pace, she lifted the bar.

She delivered high-quality recruitment outcomes, built strong relationships across the organisation and external partners, and continued to support key programs like salary review and bonus cycles.

Her colleagues describe her as someone who consistently models our values - “lives it, loves it and owns it” - and whose cultural fit, collaboration and professionalism are widely recognised across the business.

Bonnie’s work ensures we attract the right people, strengthen capability and support our teams to thrive - all core to putting people at the heart of banking.

Well deserved, Bonnie. Thank you.
