Today is Giving Day 💛

At the National Centre for Naturopathic Medicine, every act of generosity helps create meaningful impact — supporting research that improves patient outcomes, empowering future practitioners through education and scholarships, and strengthening the future of natural healthcare.

As part of our annual Giving Appeal, we invite our community to come together today and support the area that resonates most with them. Whether your passion lies in advancing research, supporting students, preserving vital educational resources or helping grow the Centre’s future initiatives, every contribution makes a difference.

For the third year running, we are incredibly grateful to vital.ly for their generous support of the Research Futures Scholarship Program through our Giving Appeal. Their ongoing commitment is helping shape the future of evidence-informed natural healthcare by supporting undergraduate students to gain invaluable hands-on research experience.

Through the six-week program, students work alongside experienced academic mentors on real-world research projects and receive a stipend that helps ease financial pressures as they complete their studies.

Since the program began in 2020, 42 students have completed the Research Futures Scholarship Program under the supervision of 30 academic mentors across a range of disciplines and faculties. The outcomes continue to demonstrate the program’s impact, with many students progressing into Honours, Masters by Research and PhD pathways, publishing scientific papers, contributing to health policy development, and helping strengthen the future research workforce in our profession.

As Kent Weathers, Chief Executive Officer of vital.ly explains:
“At vital.ly, we believe a sustainable profession is built on strong clinical reasoning and evidence-led practice. Universities play a central role in shaping that foundation. The Research Futures Scholarship Program provides practical research experience that strengthens how future practitioners think, question, and apply evidence in clinic. We support the Centre to help build a more capable profession, where research, clinical practice, and industry work together to improve patient outcomes.”

Thank you to vital.ly for continuing to invest in the next generation of researchers, clinicians, and leaders in natural healthcare. Your partnership is creating lasting impact across research, education, and patient care.

As Giving Day approaches on 29 May, we invite our community to support the area that matters most to them — from student scholarships and research programs to education and future-focused initiatives that help strengthen the profession for generations to come: https://fundraise.scu.edu.au/event/ncnmgivingday/home

📚 A gift of knowledge that will last generations

More than 600 naturopathic and herbal medicine texts were generously gifted to NCNM by the Naturopaths & Herbalists Association of Australia (NHAA)—a powerful investment in the future of the profession. 🌱

This remarkable collection does more than preserve knowledge—it brings the depth, history and evolution of naturopathic medicine into the everyday learning experience of our students 🎓 while strengthening the resources available to educators and researchers 🔬.

A dedicated reading room, now in development at our Lismore campus 🏛️📚, will provide a purpose-built space where students, academics and researchers can engage deeply with these texts—supporting more informed practice, stronger research, and ultimately better health outcomes for the communities they will serve ❤️.

“This collection represents the heart of our profession—its knowledge, history and clinical wisdom. NHAA is committed to strengthening education, research and professional practice. This contribution reflects our dedication to ensuring that future practitioners are grounded in both traditional knowledge and contemporary evidence, supporting better health outcomes across the communities they serve.” NHAA Executive

Through this gift, NHAA is not only safeguarding the legacy of the profession—it is actively shaping its future, ensuring that generations of practitioners are grounded in both traditional knowledge and contemporary evidence. 📖✨

Every book opened is another step toward a more skilled, confident and connected healthcare workforce.

💚 Be part of the impact

This Giving Day on May 29, you can help expand access to learning, research and student opportunity—building the spaces and resources that future practitioners rely on.

🌟 Our 2026 Giving Appeal is now underway, leading up to Giving Day on Friday 29 May.

Every day at NCNM, donor support helps turn ideas into impact—from groundbreaking research and student scholarships to clinical innovation and improved access to integrative healthcare.

This year, we're highlighting the many ways our community's generosity is helping to:

🔬 Fund important research projects led by students and practitioners
🎓 Support scholarships that provide valuable placement and learning opportunities
🌿 Strengthen our teaching clinics and medicinal plant garden for students and patients
💙 Advance innovative clinical research, including world-first studies exploring HBOT for cancer care

Behind every initiative are people whose lives are being changed—students developing their skills, researchers expanding healthcare knowledge, and patients benefiting from accessible integrative care.

As Giving Day approaches, we invite you to consider supporting an area of NCNM's work that resonates with you. Whether it's research, education, student support or clinical innovation, every gift helps create lasting impact: https://ow.ly/tB1850Z3HbA

We were delighted to welcome Michelle from the Department of Primary Industries to Southern Cross University’s Lismore campus last Friday.

The visit provided a valuable opportunity to showcase the work being undertaken across the University, including our leadership in integrative health, sustainable agriculture, and natural product initiatives. It also created space for meaningful conversations about collaboration, research partnerships, and future opportunities to support regional communities.

At the National Centre for Naturopathic Medicine, we are particularly excited about the potential to work alongside DPI to strengthen connections between primary production, nutrition, and preventative healthcare—helping translate evidence into real-world impact.

Thank you, Michelle, for taking the time to visit and engage with our staff and students. We look forward to continuing the conversation and exploring opportunities to work together.
