Great Barrier Reef Dolphin Project

Great Barrier Reef Dolphin Project The GBRDP aims to assess the conservation status of dolphins in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park

CCP uses a multidisciplinary research approach to further improve our understanding of the effect of anthropogenic stressors, and their interactions on inshore dolphin species, primarily the Australian snubfin dolphin (Orcaella heinsohni) and the Australian humpback dolphin (Sousa sahulensis).

The GBRDP recognises the importance of engaging with Traditional Owners following the principles of Free, Prior and Informed Consent.
The engagement includes virtual communication followed by two face-to-face meetings to discuss access to sea country and collaboration.
Since November 2021, we have been connecting with over 15 groups between Cairns and Cape York.
