CAIN We focus on understanding how and why cognition changes across the lifespan, in both health & disease through EEG, TCD, eye-tracking & cognitive testing.

We are based at the University of South Australia Magill Campus. CAIN was established in 2016 and is co-lead by Drs Hannah Keage and Tobias Loetscher. Our work focuses on understanding how and why cognition changes across the lifespan (particularly in late-life), in both health and disease, and the fundamental brain mechanisms underlying these changes. Further, we evaluate the effectiveness of int

erventions to reverse or delay the progression of cognitive impairments. The lab employs psychophysiological methods such as electroencephalograph (EEG), eye-tracking and transcranial doppler (TCD), along with cognitive and behavioural testing. We are located on the Magill UniSA campus. Find us on Twitter (https://twitter.com/CAIN_Lab) or see our website (http://www.cain.science/) for more information.

WE ARE SEEKING PEOPLE WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED DELIRIUM AS A PATIENT, OR AS A CARER/SUPPORT PERSON FOR SOMEONE WHO HAD DELIRIUM

As a person with experience of delirium, (either someone who has had delirium and recovered, or someone who helped with that recovery), we’d like to invite you to be part of a focus group and workshop to help design a rehabilitation program for delirium. We’re interested in what challenges you faced, and what would have helped you recover in the weeks and months afterwards. Your thoughts, ideas and experiences are highly valued and will be used to design a program to help recovery after delirium. The sessions are expected to take 1-2 hours, will be in person and will be audio-recorded.

Huge congratulations to Alana Nagel 👏👏👏

Her honours work has just been published in the journal Dementia - What do the public really know about dementia and its risk factors?

Dementia has become a major public health concern globally. With no cure available and strong evidence for modifiable risk factors, it is imperative that the public are knowledgeable about dementia and to reduce their risk. The aim of this study was to measure the knowledge of dementia and its risk....

What about a Christmas present for a PhD student? Déborah from the University of Lausanne needs 50 Australians filling in her questionnaire on colour perception. Can be done in 20minutes

Please help us understand how we organise knowledge! We can measure this organisation by assessing your associations. Associations are links between one or several ideas. Often you think about theses ideas together (e.g., home and cosy). Also, associations may depend on the environment you live in a...

Risk Factors for Delirium and Cognitive Decline Following Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting Surgery: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis.

Thanks to all our collaborators, especially Drs Peter Psaltis (SAHMRI), Amit Lampit (UMelb) and Dan Davis (UCL).

Take a look, it's open access:

Background Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is known to improve heart function and quality of life, while rates of surgery‐related mortality are low. However, delirium and cognitive decline a...

A RE-AIM Analysis of an Intergenerational Dementia Education Program

Objectives: Children often have a lack of dementia understanding and poor attitudes toward people with dementia. Intergenerational programs are increasingly common, but the effects on knowledge and attitudes related to dementia are mixed, especially in the long-term (6 months). Using a RE-AIM framew...
