Great work by the SOCE team again this year, led by Dr Alice Dodd. And some excellent work down in the public relations and communication space in particular, led by Rebecca Somerfield. Well done to all students and staff who participated. And many thanks to the many clients who provided such a practical learning space.

A 2016 study has shown that students who take notes by hand perform better than those who take notes on laptops. Over recent years, I have noticed a decline in any form of note-taking in class and a heavy reliance on the lecturer's slides to fulfill that function. Any note-taking is better than none, but perhaps the art is disappearing. Do you think we need to teach students how to take notes?
(Thanks to Families4Families: ABI Support Network for highlighting the research).

Researchers Pam Mueller and Daniel M. Oppenheimer found that students remember more via taking notes longhand rather than on a laptop. It has to do with what happens when you're forced to slow down.
