“Every music therapy session that reduces agitation, prevents a fall or supports someone with dementia to stay calm and engaged at home, is a potential ambulance call-out that doesn’t happen, an emergency presentation that is avoided. When we underprice allied health in aged care, we pay for it elsewhere in the system — and older Australians pay for it with their wellbeing.”
Monica Zidar RMT, President, Australian Music Therapy Association

Last week, the new Aged Care pricing advice to government was released, proposing music therapy rates significantly lower than those of comparable allied health professions.
If implemented, this could seriously impact the sustainability of music therapy services and reduce access for thousands of older Australians who benefit from music therapy to support communication, emotional wellbeing, cognition, social connection, and quality of life.
Music therapy is an evidence-based allied health profession delivered by university-trained and registered clinicians. Older Australians deserve access to high-quality therapeutic supports that meet their complex needs.
Please take a moment to read the AMTA media release and support advocacy efforts to ensure music therapy remains accessible, valued, and appropriately recognised within aged care.
Together, we can help protect access to music therapy for older Australians and ensure their voices are heard. 🎵❤️

At Bilingual Music & Therapy, we always welcome feedback from families — it helps us continue to grow, improve, and better understand each child’s and family’s needs. 💛

Behind the scenes, we work closely with families through ongoing communication: sharing children’s progress, discussing goals together, and offering suggestions to support development (for example, recommending group sessions to help build social communication and peer interaction skills).

Thank you for the lovely feedback and trust in our team. Seeing each child’s growth, confidence, and connection is truly the most meaningful reward in our work. ✨

Sometimes, connection doesn’t begin with words. 🎶

In the music therapy room, it might start with a gentle strum, a shared rhythm, or simply being present together. Over time, these small musical moments become something more — a glance, a response, a sense of “we are together.”

For May, connection is growing through music — through sound, movement, and shared experience. And in those moments, communication begins to take shape in its own beautiful way.

Thank you to May’s parent for their genuine consent to share this special connection between May and RMT Josephine 💛

🎶 We’re excited to continue our collaboration with Haven Day Centre through Rewire – The Haven Choir 💛

After a short break, the choir will be resuming next Monday for Term 2, and we can’t wait to make music together again!

This community choir is a beautiful space for connection, joy, and wellbeing — especially for individuals living with dementia and their loved ones.

✨ If you’d like to learn more or join us, feel free to contact us or Haven Day Centre for more information.

Rewire - The Haven Choir returns for Term 2 on Monday 20 April!

We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone back for another term of music, connection and shared enjoyment.

Rewire - The Haven choir is a dementia-friendly choir, led by music therapists and open to everyone. It’s a warm and supportive space to sing familiar favourites, learn new songs, and enjoy the simple pleasure of coming together through music.

No musical experience is needed, just a willingness to join in.
