From a young age, Samir knew hairdressing was his future. Today, you can see that passion in action in our student salon, where he’s building skills and confidence through hands-on training.

As we celebrate Adult Learners Week, Samir’s story is a reminder that following your compass can lead to powerful change.

A BIG day for Sunbury!

We’ve officially commenced construction on Kangan Institute’s brand-new Sunbury campus – the first purpose-built TAFE in the area and a huge win for local skills, jobs and opportunity.

Member for Sunbury Josh Bull joined us onsite to celebrate what this means for the community: real training, close to home, for the first time.

And with National Skills Week just getting underway, it feels like a pretty fitting moment to be breaking ground on a project all about future skills and opportunities.

What you need to know about this new campus:

✅ Bringing in-demand training to Sunbury – including digital tech, hair and beauty, education support, vocational English and more.

✅ Featuring flexible classrooms, breakout spaces and a welcoming student hub.

✅ Located right in the heart of town at 7 Evans Street and 2-4 O’Shanassy Street, spanning nearly 3,000m2.

✅ Shaped with input from community, schools, industry and Traditional Owners to reflect what Sunbury needs, especially as the population is set to more than double by 2046.

✅ Backed by a $25 million Victorian Government investment.

✅ Designed by Spowers Architects, constructed by McCorkell Constructions.

The doors are open!

Hume Tech School is officially here – a state-of-the-art STEM hub that will support more than 20,000 students across one of Australia’s fastest-growing regions.

Thank you to Member for Broadmeadows Kathleen Matthews-Ward, our partners and guests who joined us today to mark this milestone for the Hume community and Victoria’s future workforce.

Based at Kangan Institute’s Broadmeadows campus, the new facility delivers free, high-tech, hands-on STEM programs for students from all 28 secondary schools in Hume.

It brings schools, industry and TAFE together so young people can solve real-world problems, design their own solutions and build skills for emerging jobs in advanced manufacturing, automation, renewable energy, healthcare, construction, transport and logistics, and data analytics.

Designed with students, schools, First Nations Elders and community voices, the Hume Tech School is a living laboratory – a sustainable, future-focused space built for collaboration and innovation.

This landmark $15.47 million Victorian Government investment was designed by Brand Architects, delivered by arete Australia, and project managed by TSA Riley.

Not long now until the doors to our Hume Tech School officially open!

In the meantime, we're still in awe over the beautiful entry artwork by Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung elder Aunty Kim Wandin and artist Chris Joy.

This one is all about opening doors for young people in Melbourne’s west. This pilot brings together Kangan Institute, Lendlease, local schools and employers to help students stay connected to education, build confidence and see rewarding future options for themselves.

It’s practical, local and built around real jobs and workforce need with the potential to grow further when our new Melton Campus opens in 2028.
