What happens when students are challenged to design sustainable furniture for Melbourne Design Week? This.

As part of Melbourne Design Week, Collarts and Escultura partnered to bring A Sculpted Collective to life, a sustainable furniture design competition and alumni panel.

Students were challenged to design and pitch a one-of-a-kind furniture piece, with one winning concept produced by Escultura and showcased in their Richmond showroom.

🏆 Winner: Danielle van Yzerloo for Lithos
🌟 High Commendation: Fernanda Mihessen for Linear
🌟 High Commendation: Samuel Bennett for Waterfall

The alumni panel featured Kylie, Lydia, and Collarts Interior Design graduate and Escultura co-founder Kat Nitsou.

"The judges were genuinely impressed by the level of creativity, innovation, and thoughtfulness demonstrated in students' submissions.'' - Jenni Woods, Interior Design Program Leader

Congratulations to all who took part. This is what happens when creativity meets sustainability. 💚

Sascha Gilliam. Yawuru artist, Music Production student, and someone whose music is built on connection, culture and community.

Sascha's music lives somewhere between ambient and alternative trip-hop. She started out making songs in GarageBand and is now writing music about Yawuru culture and history at the request of her Jalbi.

During National Reconciliation Week, Sascha reminded us that reconciliation isn't something First Nations people should have to carry alone. This year's theme is All In, a call for every Australian to show up, not just once a year, but every single day.

"I especially love the theme this year, All In, because it's crucial to spread the weight of activism across everyone's shoulders, instead of having it all sit on First Nations people."

Today is IDAHOBIT (International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism and Transphobia), a day to stand against discrimination and celebrate LGBTQIA+ communities.

Everyone in the Collarts community deserves to feel safe, respected, seen, and empowered to be exactly who they are. Creativity thrives when people are free to express themselves authentically, and we are committed to fostering an inclusive community where diversity is celebrated.

At Collarts we stand with and support all LGBTQIA+ people today and every day.

Performing Arts students across Acting, Stage Management, and Writing & Directing presented a powerful three-part staging of Oresteia by Aeschylus, marking their final major production.

Performed at Abbotsford Convent, the trilogy explores themes of vengeance, justice, and the shift from personal revenge to lawful order.

Congratulations to all students involved in the final production. 🎉

As part of Fashion Revolution Week - one of the world’s largest fashion activism movements - Fashion & Sustainability Coordinator Tamara Leacock hosted a Healing Stitch Workshop, inviting students and staff to repair their old clothes through slow stitching, decorative mending and visible repair techniques. These approaches transform worn garments into unique, expressive pieces. 🪡🧵

We were also lucky to welcome two fashion alumni, Callum Amor and Chinglaing Heng, who demonstrated their techniques and shared their knowledge in the art of repairing and reimagining clothing.
