Check out this trip report from Oliver and Zabrina in Mt Cook, NZ. 🏔️

Over the summer, we had the privilege to participate in a 5-day mountaineering course in Aoraki/Mt Cook National Park in New Zealand. Whilst waiting out some bad weather, we first went over rope and rescue skills at Unwin Lodge down in the valley, as well as some sport climbing at the nearby cliffs. When the weather finally cleared, we were flown up to the picturesque Grand Plateau, where we learned glacier travel, crevasse rescue, ice and rock anchors, pitched climbing, and ice climbing. On the final day, we combined our new skills to summit a nearby peak. We are extremely grateful to have had the trip subsidised by the MUMC training grant, and are keen to put our new skills to good use in the alpine in the near future!

At MUMC we have a training fund that helps our community up skill in the outdoors, funding courses from Wilderness First Aid to Whitewater paddling, climbing/mountaineering courses, as well as rescue workshops. Check out our website for more details.

Trip report from .leesmith on the two bays trail last week!

We had the perfect weather today for our 28km hike through the Mornington Peninsula national park on the Two Bays Trail, and the animals seemed to agree, having seen five echidnas, a bunch of kangaroos 🦘 and wallabies and even some snakes on the trail. 🐍

Over the weekend Alexis and Eleanor ran a bushwalking trip to Mt Speculation! ⛰️

They had some great weather going from upper howqua campground to Mt Speculation. They went via mt howitt and crosscut saw and back out the next day.

Last weekend Callum and Luke ran a multi sport trip to Beowa national park in NSW! 🐳🏃‍♀️

We’d initially gone up for surfing and walking but there wasn’t much surf, so instead a couple of us ending up climbing.

The first day we drove up the 6 1/2 hours to the park and got in late so didn’t do much. We had a pretty chill day on the beach on Saturday, explored the beach and found a pretty cool cave.

On Sunday we did 10km along the light to light walk from Saltwater Creek to Bittangabee and stopped to watch whales along the way on the shore.

When we got to Bittangabee, a couple of us decided to go to Green Cape lighthouse (about 15km return), while the rest of us went back along the trail to check out the skiff face we’d stopped at whale watching to do some trad climbing and then walked the 10km back to saltwater to get the cars.

Then the Monday we headed in to Eden to check it out before coming back to Melbourne!

Winner winner chicken dinner! 🏆

Our very own Nikita Bulach and Eleanor March competed in the 24 hour Victorian Rogaining Championships.

They competed in the roving 15 hour category (staying out on course for 15 hours).

They won the women's 23 and under category for both the 15 and 24 hour events!

Go gals! 💪
