The construction skills shortage is real. So is the opportunity. 👷‍♂️🏗️

If you've ever waited months for a tradie or struggled to find someone for a renovation, you've seen the construction skills shortage firsthand.

And Victoria needs more skilled workers.

The Victorian Skills Authority estimates the construction industry will need 162,000 new workers between 2027 and 2035, while major infrastructure and housing projects are continuing to drive demand.

So, what's behind the shortage?

🔨 Fewer people are starting trade apprenticeships
👷 Experienced tradies are reaching retirement age
🏗️ Demand for housing and infrastructure keeps growing
📈 The industry needs more skilled workers across every stage of a project

For anyone considering a career in construction, that means opportunity.

It's not just about becoming a carpenter. The industry needs skilled people across the entire construction pathway, from apprentices and carpenters to site supervisors, estimators, project coordinators and registered builders.

At TIV, you can build your skills and progress through the industry with practical, industry-connected training.

Not sure where to start?

👉 CPC30220 Certificate III in Carpentry – start your career on the tools
👉 CPC40120 Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Building) – move towards supervision and site management
👉 CPC40320 Certificate IV in Building Project Support – develop skills in estimating and project support
👉CPC50220 Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) – work towards becoming a registered builder
👉CPC60220 Advanced Diploma of Building & Construction (Management) – work towards becoming a registered builder

The skills shortage isn't disappearing anytime soon. If you've been thinking about getting qualified, now could be the time to take the next step.

August is 🦺Tradies National Health Month 🔨

It was established in 2012 by the Australian Physiotherary Association to raise awareness of the physical and mental challenges that those in trade professions face.

Australia continues to face critical trade shortages and growing infrastructure demands, making it more critical than ever that our tradies invest in their health to ensure that not only do our communities thrive, but also our tradies.

At TIV, we want to ensure that our students prepare before heading out into the work force. We focus on enhancing their skills and knowledge of the building and construction industry, but we also want them to be aware of the best way to take of themselves to ensure a long-life career as a tradie.

If you would like to know more about National Tradie Health Month, then make sure to check out the Australian Physiotheary Association's website: https://australian.physio/campaigns/tradies-national-health-month

Meet River. At 21, he already had experience in construction, but decided the traditional apprenticeship route wasn’t for him.

Instead, River chose to earn his qualifications with TIV, completing his CPC30220 Certificate III in Carpentry and CPC40120 Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Building).

He’s now forging his own unique path in the industry.

We caught up with River to hear why he made this choice, what he’s learned, and what’s next.

This is River.

He’s 21. He’s worked in construction. And he decided an apprenticeship wasn’t the path for him.

Instead, River chose a different way forward, completing his CPC30220 Certificate III in Carpentry and CPC40120 Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Building) with TIV.

Hear from River about why he made that choice, what he’s learned along the way, and where he’s headed next.

Tao has recently completed his course 👨‍🎓 and had such amazing things to say about one of our trainers, Bill. The support and dedication that is provided by our trainers, like Bill, is just another reason we can say that we are proud of what we do. 🙌

Thank you to Tao for your kind words and congratulations on completing your course.

And thank you to Bill, for your excellent work and dedication to our students.
