In the not-so-quiet-quiet time between PRS Australia June and PRS Asia September, we’d like to take a moment to look forward and to look back.
Looking forward, we’re welcoming Professor Daniel Palmer as our new PRS Australia Chair.
Daniel is a Professor in the School of Art at RMIT University and currently leads Art History and Theory.
Daniel’s research and professional practice focuses on contemporary art and cultural theory, with a particular emphasis on photography and digital media. Between 2018 and 2023 he was Associate Dean of Research and Innovation in the School of Art at RMIT. Prior to joining RMIT in 2018, Palmer was Associate Dean of Graduate Research and Associate Professor in the Art History & Theory Program at Monash Art, Design & Architecture.
In his tenure, Daniel will embrace a commitment to community and future practice:
“I’m honoured to continue the legacy of those who have shaped the long and distinguished history of PRS Australia. From my perspective in the School of Art, I’m eager to strengthen collaboration among creative practice researchers across schools, particularly around shared concerns such as generative AI, the climate emergency, and the responsibilities of working on unceded land. My thanks to Andrea for her magnificent stewardship.”
In the same breath, we look back at the valuable contributions from A/Prof Andrea Eckersley during her term as PRS Australia Chair.
“It has been so fantastic working closely with the PRS community over the last few years. It really has been an absolute privilege being witness to so much extraordinarily great and innovative work that is created and supported through this unique model of research training. What I love most about the PRS is the sharing of knowledge and insights and the generous support that each of you give to one another. Thank you!”
🤍 Thank you to Andrea and welcome to PRS Australia, Daniel!
