We don’t just teach Social Work: We empower our students with real-world placement experiences to make a real difference.

Meet Poorva, a 3rd-year Bachelor of Social Work student at IHM, currently completing her placement at San Carlo Aged Care.
With six different care units, ranging from low care to high care, Poorva is gaining valuable exposure to a wide range of residents and care needs. Her placement has given her hands-on experience supporting residents living with dementia, depression, and other diagnoses, while developing the skills needed to work effectively in an aged care environment.

One of her biggest learnings? Communication and patience.

Poorva has also learned the importance of reviewing resident paperwork and understanding their individual needs before engaging with them, which has helped her approach every interaction with greater awareness, empathy, and professionalism.

This is what learning beyond the classroom looks like: real people, real experiences, and real-world skills.

🌱 Learn. Experience. Make an impact.

Advancing Technology-Enabled Learning at IHM School of Social Work

We are pleased to announce the launch of the IHM Study Companion, a 24/7 AI Tutor designed to support students in Bachelor of Social Work units at the IHM School of Social Work.

This initiative reflects IHM’s ongoing commitment to technology-enabled learning and innovative, student-centred pedagogy. The IHM Study Companion provides an additional layer of flexible academic support, helping students engage with their learning at a time and pace that works for them.

The IHM Study Companion is designed to help students:
- Clarify complex concepts through clear, step-by-step explanations
- Engage more actively with unit readings, learning materials, and key ideas
- Prepare for assessments by unpacking questions, identifying areas for revision, and strengthening understanding, without writing assessment answers for students
- Practise learning through summaries, guiding questions, and revision support
- Build confidence in applying professional, ethical, and policy frameworks relevant to contemporary social work practice
- Access learning support anytime, supporting diverse student needs and study schedules

The launch is part of IHM’s broader strategy to enrich learning through interactive tools, provide accessible on-demand academic support, and develop the digital capabilities graduates need for contemporary professional practice.

Importantly, the IHM Study Companion is designed to complement, not replace, our educators, academic support services, or official unit materials. IHM teaching staff remain central to curriculum design, professional socialisation, assessment, and meaningful student engagement. The AI Tutor provides an additional technology-enabled resource that supports students to ask questions, deepen their understanding, and take a more active role in their learning.

Through a staged implementation approach, IHM will continue to evaluate and refine the pedagogy, maintain alignment with academic standards, and embed responsible, effective uses of AI across its curricula.

We are excited to see how the IHM Study Companion helps Bachelor of Social Work students feel more confident, connected, and supported throughout their learning journey.

🌍 IHM x Solaris International | South Africa

What an incredible few days in South Africa!

IHM, together with Solaris International, had the pleasure of connecting with nurses across Johannesburg, Durban, and Cape Town, and it was fantastic to see so many nurses join us at our sessions, ask questions, and explore opportunities for their nursing careers in Australia.

📍 Johannesburg: 24–25 August
📍 Durban: 26–27 August
📍 Cape Town: 28 August

A huge thank you to everyone who took the time to meet with us and make these sessions so memorable. Your enthusiasm, questions, and interest made the trip truly worthwhile!

We look forward to welcoming more aspiring nurses into the IHM community.
