This year, hundreds of future RMIT students across South-East Asia and China have had a taste of RMIT UP Foundation Studies – without leaving home!

Our Art, Design, Architecture and Business teachers recently ran interactive demo classes in Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia and China, giving students and parents a real feel for RMIT-style learning: hands-on, creative and focused on practical, real-world skills.

From exploring the building blocks of art and design to unpacking what influences buyer behaviour, feedback from students, parents, teachers and agents has been overwhelmingly positive, with many saying the experience boosted their confidence in choosing RMIT UP.

A big thank you to our partners, participating schools, parents and amazing students that took part. We can’t wait to welcome many of you to RMIT UP in Melbourne soon!

What a spectacular way to kick off the Lunar New Year at RMIT UP!

Our students and staff enjoyed a thrilling lion dance performance and a special visit from Caishen, the God of Wealth – filling our campus with drumbeats, colour and excitement.

Huge thanks to the incredible dancers and musicians from the Chinese Youth Society of Melbourne for bringing so much energy, colour and joy to our campus.

To everyone in our community celebrating Lunar New Year and Tet – we wish you a happy and prosperous Year of the Horse!

Earlier this year, we welcomed our very first GuateFuturo-RMIT and HonduFuturo-RMIT scholarship students from Guatemala and Honduras—further building our strong partnerships across Latin America.

The Fundación Guatefuturo-RMIT and Fundación HonduFuturo-RMIT scholarships make it possible for talented students from Guatemala and Honduras to study a Master’s by Coursework or Research, or a PhD, here at RMIT University. Plus, in 2025, we’re excited to have had 11 Fundación Colfuturo-RMIT scholars from Colombia.

We recently chatted with Carlos Fuentes about his journey at RMIT UP and how the GuateFuturo-RMIT Scholarship supported him in improving his English, embracing new cultures, and pursuing his passion for using data analytics to drive business growth through the Master of Analytics (coursework) program.

From marching Vegemite jars to music, juggling and moving monologues, our international students recently lit up the Kaleide Theatre stage with their original show, Place!

Developed over several weeks by RMIT UP students and led by Director Elizabeth Walley, the production explored “what does place mean to you?”

The resulting production was touching, inspiring and funny, with the audience delighting in scenes ranging from Australian border control to daily life at RMIT UP.

A huge congratulations to our performers, backstage support and the RMIT UP Student Experience Team for supporting our students to deliver this wonderful show.

Last Friday we welcomed around 120 Foundation Studies students to our new Franklin Street Campus for orientation. The day was all about ensuring students, especially those away from home for the first time, feel supported and connected and have the confidence to begin their studies with the best possible start.

Students explored our campus, met our dedicated teachers and support teams, and mingled with universities from RMIT University including Clubs, RUSU - RMIT University Student Union and Kirrip volunteers to get a taste of university life.

Students then sat down to a beautifully presented long table lunch, provided by not for profit, Give A Fork, that brought students together to connect and build friendships.

We wish everyone a successful semester and encourage them to make the most of what Melbourne has to offer.

We are delighted to introduce RMIT UP alum Michelle, who features in RMIT's "What the Future?!" brand campaign!

As an international student from Indonesia, Michelle began her studies with our Foundation Studies program, where she gained essential skills for university success.

She has gone on to earn a Bachelor of Design and an MBA at RMIT University. With her experience as an international student, Michelle is now finding opportunities to foster the same fellowship and career guidance she had at RMIT, by starting a student mentorship program with her fellow alumni.

“Back then when I was 18-years-old, I really didn’t know what to do, and the foundation study itself helped me shape who I am now, as a person as well, as I explore what I want to do in life.”

Watch the video to hear more from Michelle.

We’re proud to share RMIT University Pathways (RMIT UP) has been recognised for creating a welcoming and nurturing environment for international students, securing first place in the 2024 English Language Barometer Survey for face-to-face orientation.

The English Language Barometer Survey is an online English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS) student survey conducted across Australia every two years.

The 2024 results reveal that RMIT UP scored the highest for face-to-face orientations among 17 Australian language centres, in a competitive field that included 15 university-based centres; seven from the Group of Eight.

The RMIT UP Student Experience Team delivers nine English for Academic Purposes orientation days and two Foundation Studies orientation days per year with anywhere from 50 – 200 attendees per session.

Student Experience Manager Matt Cox says what makes RMIT UP orientations stand out is the focus on support services and helping students build connections with other students.

“Our orientations are designed with the knowledge that for many students, it’s their first time away from home and their support networks,” he said.
