SONA Australia The Student Organised Network for Architecture (SONA) is the official student body of the Australian Institute of Architects run by students, for students.

The Student Organised Network for Architecture (SONA) is the official student body of the Australian Institute of Architects. We represent architecture students from across Australia, organising national, state and local events that provide opportunities for students to collaborate with each other as well as professional designers. SONA members take part in the annual Australia architecture conference, the biannual student congress, local mentoring and social events, design competitions, professional committees, and receive and contribute to nationally-recognised architecture publications. It really is an amazing community to be part of.

Australasian Student Architecture Congress is coming to Auckland / Tāmaki Makaurau in Weaving 2026!

The Australasian Student Architecture Congress is a biennial, student-led event that brings together students and recent graduates from across Australasia to engage with architecture, foster discourse and shape the future of the architectural discipline. Congress provides opportunities for learning, collaboration, and connection away from the traditional academic space.

Five key ideas underpin this year’s congress: Weaving Place, Weaving Space, Weaving Knowledge, Future(s), and Weaving Connections. Together these ideas frame a program that poses the question: how, in this discipline of architecture, do we weave together?

These key ideas shape the six-day events program, which includes a conference day (with local and international speakers), tours (by local guides), and a two-day festival which centres on making and Weaving.
