In just 2 weeks, the Commonwealth Association of Architects Biennial General Assembly arrives in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, Aotearoa New Zealand — held alongside the in:Situ 2026 Conference.

From 8–10 September, the Aotea Centre will bring together architects, educators, emerging practitioners and students from across the Commonwealth for three days of conversations, ideas, education and celebration — including the CAA Awards and its 60th Anniversary.

As SONA, we’re excited to be collaborating with the CAA and joining the conversation around the future of architectural education, practice and the profession.

NATIONAL WINNER | SUPERSTUDIO 2026 🏆✨

A massive congratulations to our Queensland Chapter team for taking out the National SuperStudio title with their moving proposal on Arrowhead Ridge in the Korean DMZ.
“Arirang, Arirang, Arariyo…”
Bound by the tragedy of war, North and South Korea remain divided, yet they share one melody: Arirang, a song of longing for a loved one’s return.
Set on the site of a 2019 joint recovery mission for fallen soldiers, this project proposes a memorial pavilion where architecture becomes an instrument. As visitors walk through, they pluck strings woven into the structure, allowing the notes of Arirang to resonate through the space.
Entrants feel the physical vibrations left by someone entering from the opposite side, perhaps from the North, realising that their own melody has reached a stranger they may never meet, yet remain connected to.
An extraordinary exploration of memory, sound, and shared identity. Congratulations to the winning team on a beautifully executed design!

From late-night design sprints to high-stakes presentations, you all gave it your absolute best, and it truly showed! 🏛️✨

Tools Down: It’s Presentation Time! 📐⚡️

Submissions are closed, and the hard work is done! A huge congratulations to all of our Super Studio 2026 participants for pushing your ideas to the limit over the past week.

Now comes the fun part. Tonight, teams across the country will take the stage to pitch their two A3 panels to our local juries.
