Chaos, community and a buroinjin - Queen's took to the field yesterday for the annual Buroinjin Cup, joining Trinity, Ormond, UC and St Hilda's in a traditional indigenous game of the Kabi Kabi people of South Queensland.

Buroinjin is a running-and-passing ball game with similarities to rugby and touch AFL. There is no tackling - if a player with the ball (buroinjin) is touched, the ball is thrown into the air to be contested by two other players.

It was a wonderful afternoon mixing sport and education, celebration and community.

To mark National Reconciliation Week, our Indigenous Scholar, Patrick Mercer held a yarning circle and workshop. Under this year's theme - "All in for Reconciliation" - the session brought together conversation on cultural safety, giving meaningful Acknowledgments of Country, Victoria's Treaty process, and building respectful relationships with First Nations peers, stakeholders, and communities.

The conversation was open and wide-ranging - a chance to ask questions, share perspectives, or simply listen - a continuing journey as we build shared understanding in our community.

More than 30 Wyverns and professionals from across the Queen's community joined us for our CareerReady Dinner, spanning law, medicine, engineering, tech, consulting, education, finance, and more. With the career landscape constantly shifting, there's no substitute for hearing first-hand from people already in them.

Conversations covered specific roles, unexpected pivots, and careers that looked nothing like the plan.

We’re incredibly grateful to our Wyverns for making the night such a success. Their willingness to volunteer their time, share their expertise, and encourage the next generation of Wyverns speaks volumes about the strength and generosity of our community.

The Dinner is one part of Queen's broader CareerReady program - workshops, networking events, and alumni partnerships designed to equip students with the skills, confidence, and connections they need after College.

The Rowing Regatta is one of the iconic events on the Queen’s calendar - our dedicated rowing crews and their Wyvern coaches, the watermelon helmets, the Men’s 2nd VIII shaving their heads to support the World’s Greatest Shave, and the BBQ breakfast to start the morning.

Grey and drizzly it may have been, but Queeners turned out in force to cheer on their rowers and make it a day to remember.

Another hockey grand final against Ormond! Despite a hard fought match, the men's team were unable to prevail falling to a tenacious Ormond team 2-0. Congratulations to Ormond for a well-contested match and to our team for such commitment and effort throughout the season.

Public speaking can be terrifying, but the valuable skill is a little easier to develop when your audience is a crowd of supportive Queeners willing you to succeed.

Congratulations to the nine Queener's who competed in this year's Willie Quick Oratory Competition - each picking a contested topic and defending their position:

(from L to R)
* Colby Grieves - Has the pursuit of social justice come at the cost of economic responsibility?
* Jamie Cartwright - Should single-use plastics be completely banned, even if it hurts low-income households?
* Nikolas Tol - Is the money spent on space travel justifiable?
* Benji Light - Is artificial intelligence a threat to white-collar jobs, or an opportunity to create better ones?
* Aazeen Asad Kidwai - Should fast fashion be taxed to discourage overconsumption?
* Dusty Kelly-Chirgwin - Should mental health days be treated the same as sick days in the workplace?
* Dhairya Chauhan - Is democracy the best system of government, or just the least bad option?
* Mara Cui - Should gene editing of human embryos be permitted to eliminate hereditary diseases?
* Pip Mallett - Should influencer advertising be more strictly regulated to protect consumers?

Special congratulations to joint winners Aazeen and Nikolas.

Another unforgettable Queen’s College Charity Ball! The friendships, atmosphere, and fun. An evening when our whole community - students and Wyverns - celebrate together.

It’s a community that doesn’t happen by accident. It’s built through shared meals, late nights in the library, sport, music, and everything in between - the shared life and sense of belonging that is at the heart of Queen’s.

There's a reason the Ball is the highlight of the Queen's social calendar. This year was no exception.

Proceeds from the Ball were in support of the Mirabel Foundation who conduct valuable work helping vulnerable children.
