Dr Abraham Leung has published a new article for The Conversation Australia + NZπŸ’‘! Have you taken advantage of the Qld e-bike and e-scooter rebate πŸ’°? It’s a fantastic initiative, better life cycle environmental benefits πŸƒ than full-size electric cars! But this might surprise you: in 2023 more than a half of Australians (~57%) already own bikes, but only 15% used them in the past week (and there is a huge gender difference in cycling participation). There must be something discouraging people from cycling more often in Australia – is it safety or the lack of cycling infrastructure? πŸ€” Check the article to see how other jurisdictions (πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸ‡³πŸ‡±πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸ‡«πŸ‡·) are providing incentives in different ways that might encourage ridership more. There are also differences in what motivates people to ride e-bikes vs. e-scooters! πŸš΄β€β™‚οΈ = get fit and stay healthy; πŸ›΄ = cost-effective and fun! Just published at Micromobility Report, our Abraham Leung, Aydin Soltan, Madison Bland have updated and expanded the table showing the evolution of micromobility sharing services in major Australian cities across all states and territories.
Original article and table in 2021: https://theconversation.com/why-e-bikes-can-succeed-where-earlier-bike-share-schemes-failed-151844

We developed a table of shared micromobility services in major Australian cities in February 2021, and the Micromobility Report followed up with an update five months later to reflect the changes.

Our research fellow Abraham Leung was quoted by the ABC on the benefits and issues of increasing e-scooter uptake in regional towns like Broome in Western Australia:

Almost 200 people presented to a regional hospital with e-scooter injuries in Western Australia's north in the space of 12 months, a study has found.

(🐞Bug notice: We've identified a bug that causes the 40H loop to appear broken between the George Street stop 115 and Adelaide Street stop 22. Please treat it as a loop. It's too late to fix this unfortunately, but we now know how to handle loops in future GTFS work)
