The UON Q***r Guild stands in solidarity with our trans and gender-diverse community. Media outlets must be held accountable for profiting from the discrimination of marginalized communities.

Placing inflammatory, anti-trans rhetoric on the front page of a newspaper is not just irresponsible—it is a deliberate choice to spread fear, misinformation, and hate. These ads contribute to real-world harm, legitimizing bigotry and undermining the rights and dignity of trans and gender-diverse people.

We demand ethical media practices that reject harmful political propaganda and prioritize truth, integrity, and respect for all communities. To our trans and gender-diverse peers: we see you, we support you, and we will always fight alongside you.

In line with the demands from Cr Paige Johnson we demand
1. A public apology on the front page of the next edition for the harm caused by running this advertisement
2. Donate the revenue made from this advertisement to a charity supporting trans and gender diverse people and youth
3. Commit to no further advertisements from any discriminatory organisation but in particular from the trumpet of patriots

🌈 Welcome to the Q***r Guild 2025! 🌈

Hello everyone, my name is Jamie Merchant (she/they), and I’m absolutely honored to be stepping into the role of Officer for the Q***r Guild! I’m 21 years old, currently studying a combined Bachelor of Laws (Honours)/ Bachelor of Criminology, and I’m excited to be part of such a vibrant, diverse community.
Before I dive in, I want to take a moment to acknowledge the outstanding contributions of Kastor Morgan, whose visionary leadership has set an exceptional standard for this guild. Kastor’s unwavering commitment and passion for the q***r community have been instrumental in laying a strong foundation, and I am deeply grateful for all they’ve done to shape this space into what it is today. Additionally, I would like to recognize the efforts of all those who came before us—previous members whose dedication and hard work have allowed the Q***r Guild to flourish into the vibrant community it is today. I am honored to carry forward their vision of inclusivity, advocacy, and celebration, and I look forward to adding my own contributions as we continue this journey together.
As we move forward, my goal is to ensure that the Q***r Guild remains a safe, empowering, and celebratory space for everyone. Whether you’re here for community, support, or just a chance to meet new people, this guild is for you. I also would also love for the guild to become more visible and see more q***rness in the UON community.

I’m passionate about using my studies in law and criminology to advocate for the rights and wellbeing of the q***r community, and I’m here to listen, support, and help create events and initiatives that bring us together. If you have ideas or simply want to chat, my door is always open.
Also if anyone has any thoughts or concerns they’re not comfortable sharing directly, I’ve attached a Google Form below where you can provide anonymous feedback. I encourage everyone to utilize this tool if something is bothering you about an event, or if there’s something you feel needs attention within the guild. Feedback is essential for growth and improvement, and I truly believe it can help us make the Q***r Guild a better, more inclusive space. Hopefully, this form won’t need to be used frequently, but please know that your voice matters, and this is one way to ensure it’s heard. It will be pinned at the top for easy access.
Furthermore, I have carefully curated a diverse and dynamic team of q***r individuals, each bringing a unique perspective and energy to the group. The team includes: Kastor Morgan, Lachlan Cider, Isabella Taylor, Lilly Gutherson, and Harry Kitching.
● Lachlan Cider will take on the role of Support Facilitator for Mature-Aged and Disabled Q***r Individuals, ensuring that our most vulnerable members receive the support and the care they need.
● Isabella Taylor will act as the Legal Advocate for Q***r Issues, working to inform, organise and advance q***r rights within legal spheres.
● Lilly Gutherson will assume the position of Historical Q***r Researcher and Fact-Checker, preserving and verifying q***r history to ensure accurate representation.
● Harry Kitching will serve as our Social Media Consultant, managing and enhancing our digital presence to amplify our message and reach.
● Kastor Morgan will serve as our student, staff liaison managing the relationships between UNSA and school staff members
We currently have three additional positions that need to be filled: the Advisor for Events Coordination, Q***r Postgraduate Support and Indigenous Liaison Volunteer roles. If, upon reviewing the position descriptions, you feel that either role aligns with your skills and interests, please do not hesitate to complete the application forms provided below.
For further information regarding these roles, as well as those that have already been filled, I will be pinning a summary at the top of this page for your easy reference. Should you have any specific questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me directly.
Let’s make this year unforgettable with plenty of growth, laughter, and unapologetic q***r joy! 🏳️‍🌈
Looking forward to connecting with all of you. Remember everyone is and should all feel welcomed!

Warmly,
Jamie Merchant
Q***r Guild Officer, 2025.

Good afternoon everyone! I thought I should provide an end of year update and some ideas of what might happen next year.

Thank you to everyone for being so patient and understanding about the regrettable lack of activities. However, I am glad to be able to (re)announce that we WILL be getting a new Q***rspace in the next year, pending any setbacks. The time frame is still being worked out, but for now the plan is that it will be inside the new UNSA space in the Shortland Building, which will be set up on the side facing the Engineering Precinct/where the Pie Shop used to be, next to the Clubspace.

I'd also like to thank everyone for being understanding about the sign up list from last year; as some already know, there has been a lot of administrative hurdles to work through, one of which being that everyone who signed up as a member through UNSA was added to the 2023 mailing list until we caught that error. In light of this, I continue to encourage you to direct anyone interested to this page, and to our private group UNSA Q***r Guild.

Finally, I'd also like to encourage anyone interested to put themselves forward for the Q***r Guild Officer 2025 position at this link:
https://unsa.org.au/src-vacancies/
I am more than prepared to take on the role again next year, but ultimately I just want whoever is best suited in the position. There will also be an official induction happening before Welcome Week next semester, and regardless of who the officer is I will also be around to help with Welcome Week and anything else I can. I'd also highly encourage anyone interested to check out the other Guild Officer positions!

If anyone does apply and finds out their application was unsuccessful, make sure to reach out to the 2025 Officer to see if you can be involved in another Executive Committee position.

I hope everyone has a great break, and happy holidays!

Be part of our mission Being a part of our SRC & representative committees requires dedication, but the rewards are well worth it. You’ll develop valuable skills such as leadership, communication, and event coordination – and you’ll be well prepared for future employment opportunities.Browse o...

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!

This may have been spoiled already, but there is OFFICIALLY some cogs in motion to create a new Q***rspace on Callaghan Campus!

After the recent ALLY Training seminar for the UON Executive Staff, Vice Chancellor Alex Zelinsky became aware that our previous Q***rspace is no longer accessible, learned how important this space was for LGBTQIA+ students, and was informed of its history as the first LGBTQIA+ safe space at any NSW tertiary education organisation when it was first established in 2003. He made an on the spot commitment in front of the entire executive team, the head of EDI, and the student panel (including the Q***r Guild Officer) to ensure that a new space is created. Additionally, while I know we have previously butted heads with UNSA about the previous space, they are fully behind us and will support us however they can in establishing a new space!

Since then, the VC has gotten us in contact with IFS to outline what exactly this space will be used for and any requirements for the new space. On Tuesday our VC also mentioned this commitment in the All-Staff Forum. There was a closed meeting later that day with IFS member Tim Johnson, lead staff for the Campus Heart project Aidan Kirk and Jamie Graham, and our Guild Officer, where we negotiated a rough timeline and location for the new room.

So, this means that we are definitely going to have a new Q***rspace on the Shortland side of campus! The current timeline for the permanent space is still not fully decided, but the hope is that we will at least have an equivalent space to use in the interim before the permanent space, and that this will be opened by the end of this year. We are also ensuring that the new space will be larger, and therefore suitable to hold events in as well as being more accessible than our previous room.

I am so excited to reveal more to you all as new developments occur, and thank you all for everything you have done and continue to do to help manage this situation ❤️
