And this is why we’re Australia’s award winning interior design school! We’re still on a high after the success of our alumni at the Design Institute of Australia's Graduate of the Year Awards. We couldn’t be prouder of these super creative, emerging Interior Designers whose incredible portfolios reflect their talent and hard work.

For the second year running a SDS alumni has taken out the Australian Graduate of the Year in the Place category, ahead of all other vocational institutions, and it was wonderful that our 2025 and 2026 winners got to celebrate together.

The Certificate III in Design Fundamentals EVET course for years 11 and 12 is a fun, hands-on way for you to experience design school while you’re still at high school. ⁠

This week our first year EVET students learned about styling and creative direction. They really excelled with product styling - how good are their final images?!⁠
⁠
There's no essays or tests, just creative learning and exploration. Students complete projects in interiors, styling, creative direction, textile design and graphic design. And get ahead of the game with real skills and real career options.⁠

Eyes on our Alumni / We're thrilled to see Boronia Terrace, designed by Advanced Diploma of Interior Design graduate Candace Wu, shortlisted for the idea 2026 Awards.

Candace describes the home: "A contemporary reimagining of the traditional Redfern terrace, Boronia Terrace balances colour, craftsmanship and light to create a home with warmth and individuality. Layered materials, bespoke details and a strong connection to place bring depth and character, offering a refined response to inner city living."⁠

For commercial interior design, it starts with a concept. Conceptualisation is such an important skill to learn, as it shapes every aspect of the design process that follows.

Zara Burrows' Diploma hospitality project is a multi level venue for award winning chef Vicki Lau, a strong advocate for sustainability, social responsibility and empowering women in the industry.

Zara's concept for Ferme is based on the process of fermentation and building an ecosystem. The visual cues of bubbles and layering, together with the warm hues of the fermentation process informs the look and colour palette of the spaces.
