Ultrasound Education Group, University of Melbourne

As part of the Department of Surgery, our focus has been on learning in clinical ultrasound and research in cardiac surgery and anesthesia. The courses have been delivered as University Certificate, Diploma and Master award courses, and internationally as professional development courses and workshops, including integrating simulation into learning. The UEG was founded in 2004 by directors Alistai

r and Colin Royse. The first course was the Postgraduate Diploma of Perioperative and Critical Care Echocardiography (PGDipEcho). As the years went by the course was improved to the current portfolio and include Certificate, Diploma and Master of Clinical Ultrasound. During this time iHeartScan and Nerve Block workshops were developed, then iHeartScan Advanced and more recently the Focused Cardiac Ultrasound simulator TTE and TOE Courses, which integrate e-learning with simulators to reinforce practical components. The UEG has developed a system for the development, publication and delivery of e-learning content. It is designed for a range of application from complementing traditional face-to-face learning to exclusive e-learning designed for the busy professional. Whilst our initial focus was on clinical ultrasound, our e-learning systems are suitable for any educational program for educational institutions or industry.
