🚫 48 hours per fortnight vs 60 hours per fortnight-Please don’t spread misinformation about student work rights in Australia.
There’s been a lot of chatter online by education agents claiming that international students’ working hours are going to be increased from 1 July 2026- that’s simply FALSE and MISLEADING.
According to the Parliamentary Budget Office, the proposal to increase the work hour cap for student visa holders from 48 hours to 60 hours per fortnight was part of Peter Dutton’s Coalition election commitment that would have been considered for implementation on 1 July 2026 if the Coalition had won the election.
However, the Coalition lost the 2025 federal election, so that proposal is dead- as Labor did not float such proposal during the election or after the election. Please check your facts before sharing, especially on topics that affect international students who are vulnerable and who tend to fall prey to incorrect news shared on social media.

The PBO enriches Australia's democracy through independent budget and fiscal analysis. We inform parliament by providing policy proposals and analysis of the budget and enhancing public understanding of budget and fiscal policy settings.

About MOST
MOST is an evidence-based, digital platform offering free evidence-based mental health and wellbeing support that students can access anytime, anywhere.

Through MOST, young people aged 12-25 across Australia can access free and evidence-based mental health and well-being support, and is available to both international and domestic students.

Orygen Digital received funding from the Commonwealth Department of Health and Aged Care to make MOST available for young people aged 15–25, including international students, to sign up directly without requiring a referral from an eligible service.

Note: Young people aged 12-14, will still need a referral to access MOST from one of MOST’s partnering mental health services located in VIC, NSW, ACT, QLD and WA.

Why now?
October is Mental Health Awareness Month, making this an ideal time to share this resource with your international student community. For any questions or assistance with promotional activities, please contact:

We are deeply aware of the tragic events unfolding in Nepal. On September 8, 2025, peaceful protest movements particularly among Gen Z erupted in response to government actions restricting social media access and raising broader concerns over corruption. The unrest escalated when police opened fire on young demonstrators, resulting in significant casualties and injuries.
Our thoughts and sincere condolences go out to all those who have lost loved ones, especially the families and friends of the victims.
To every member of our college community, please know that your mental and emotional well-being is our priority. We encourage our Nepalese students and staff who are impacted by this tragic situation to reach out for help. Our Student Support Services, including confidential counselling and wellness resources, are here for you. You are not alone. Take care of yourselves and one another during this challenging time.

Speakers' Corner - Sydney
Every Sunday people gather opposite the NSW Art Gallery to discuss all matters. It's a safe place for anyone who wants to engage in real debate, about any topic.

The ones standing on ladders are the speakers, and they believe it is their job to educate their 'grasshoppers' or 'groundlings’. The ones in chairs believe it’s their job to point out why the speaker is wrong and to heckle. Both parties are kept busy.

And, if a passer-by has something to say, they might well be given five minutes to say it, up on The Ladder of Knowledge.

So, come along and argue with the ratbags. Or get on a ladder and be one!

If you decide you have had enough, they generously provide a large art gallery across the road.
