Congratulations to Mia Taylor, on completing the CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care at AIWT. What makes Mia's journey a little different is where it began: as a school-based traineeship student. She started working towards this qualification while still completing her secondary education, balancing school and real industry training at the same time. That takes a level of commitment that is worth recognising. Mia has shown from the very beginning that she is exactly the kind of person the early childhood sector needs β€” motivated, capable and genuinely passionate about the work. Well done, Mia. The best is ahead of you.

Our Early Childhood Education and Care students visited an art gallery, and it was very much part of the curriculum.

The excursion linked directly to two units of study: CHCECE047, which focuses on observing and analysing information to understand children's learning, and CHCECE048, which covers planning and implementing curriculum that is meaningful, responsive and connected to children's real interests and experiences.

Standing in front of a work of art and asking: what do you notice? what does this make you think? How might a child respond to this? Is exactly the kind of reflective practice these units are built around.

Art, culture and community are not extras in early childhood education. For skilled educators, they are some of the most powerful curriculum resources available.

This week, our Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care students explored inclusion and diversity in a way that was a little closer to home. Each student represented the country they come from. Because one of the most powerful ways to teach children about the world is to bring the world into the room. And this class does that naturally. This is what studying at AIWT looks like. A classroom full of different backgrounds, different languages, different experiences β€” all learning together, and all becoming better educators for it.

It is a question worth taking seriously, especially if you are considering a career in aged care or disability support. AI is already being used in care settings across Australia. It can help with scheduling, record keeping, monitoring and reducing repetitive admin. And that is likely to grow. But individual support is built around something that is genuinely difficult to automate: human connection.

Swipe through for a closer look at what AI can and cannot do in care settings β€” and what it means for anyone thinking about a career in individual support.
