Looking for a supportive way to increase or help your child stay active?

The Active Together program is a FREE 6-week physical activity program designed specifically for autistic children. Delivered by accredited exercise physiologists, the program is tailored to your child's individual strengths, goals, and support needs.

Free 6-week program
1–2 sessions per week (30–60 minutes)
Co-designed with you to suit your child
Open to families living in Perth, WA

Parents will also take part in a one-off interview to help shape their child's personalised activity program.

What is alexithymia? 🧠

Alexithymia refers to difficulties identifying, describing, and understanding emotions. Research suggests it may shape emotional experiences for some autistic and non-autistic individuals, but it is important to note that autism and alexithymia are separate, overlapping experiences.

Emerging research highlights that some emotional differences often attributed to autism may, in some cases, relate more closely to alexithymia. Understanding this distinction may help improve emotional support, communication, and mental health outcomes.

This post was developed to translate current research into accessible information for the community, with a neuroaffirming focus on emotional diversity and individual differences.

There is no single “right” way to experience or express emotions. If any of this resonates with you or someone you support, speaking with a GP, psychologist, or other clinical professional may help explore this further.

This study involves an hour-long interview about your challenges, strengths, and supports of being an autistic mum. You can choose the time and whether the interview is held in person at Murdoch or online over Teams. You will receive a $35 Coles grocery-only voucher as reimbursement.

As exams are around the corner, we would like to share that our sensory/calm room is open for you to use at MU! No bookings required.

•Where: Murdoch South Street Campus 460.1.014, located in access and inclusion building.
•Open 9am Monday-Friday

We will be gathering feedback as part of our research in the MU Autism lab until the end of the exams period. Feedback is anonymous, and you can opt to do this through the feedback forms in the room.

A little background of the research project:
The room was designed in collaboration with the MU neurodivergent community and built/designed based on community feedback in 2025. We now need your help to co-refine this space (phase 2 of study). The overall goal of this project is to explore how sensory spaces can support the wellbeing of students and staff. Our aim is to develop a good practice neuroaffirming framework for higher education, with a guide to co-designing such spaces within Higher Education.
