Armadale Writers' Group

Armadale Writers' Group Want to write? Looking for inspiration, guidance or encouragement? Looking to connect with like-minded people? We also host workshops and presentations.

We meet on Wednesday morning 9.30-11.30 each week at Armadale Library. $5 per session. Meeting each Wednesday from 9.30am-11.30am at Armadale Library, our friendly group is made up of published authors, hobby writers, people who want to try their hand at something new, and everything in between. Each member is encouraged to take a turn to lead the group bringing fresh approaches each week to our

writing exercises. We also have guest speakers from time to time. The weekly cost is $5, which covers room hire plus tea and coffee. For more info, contact [email protected]. You're welcome to join us any time, and you don't have to commit to coming every week. You'll find us in the meeting room of the Armadale Library, at Armadale Central Shopping Centre on Orchard Avenue. We don't provide editing or proofreading services, as these are beyond the scope of the group. These are professional services, charged accordingly. However if you'd like feedback on a longer piece of writing, you're welcome to ask a member of the group to review it - we're always willing to help each other out. Testimonials from some of our members...

"For me, the group encouraged me, supported my dreams and helped me evolve both as a writer and a person. Without the input of writing group and the support of its members I would not have thought I could attend university and obtain my degree. I've also made some enduring friendships and it has enriched my life" - Sonia

"Writing is an art form that not only fills a page with words, but brings a story to life; just like acrylic on canvas. Through the writers' group I have found my own voice, and my own artistic style" - Megan

"For me the writing group provides an excellent forum - it's a discipline, it's very informative, helpful, fun, challenging and a great way to spend a Wednesday morning with some fascinating people" - Liz

"I have evolved as a writer through joining AWG. It has given me confidence and belief in my writing gift to start a online blog. The friends I have made have enriched my life" - Mark

"I value the friendship, support, encouragement, suggestions and the confidence the group has given me. I have learnt so much through hearing their stories and the discussions we have" - Karen

"Everyone is afforded a safe space in which to write. It's a place for inspiration, great chats, laughter, and, of course, many wonderful words!" - Gemma

This year's anthology celebrating 25 years of the Armadale Writers'Group. Launched yesterday, Sunday 4 May, by Mayor Ruth Butterfield, at the Armadale District Hall as part of the Arts Festival.

Many thanks to our Mayor and to all those who attended, including Matt Swinbourn MLC and his lovely wife, Glenda; Hugh Jones MLA; councillors Scott Mosey and Gary Smith. We appreciate you giving up your time to support us.

Prize winners Tania Park and Lee Caldwell read out their winning contributions and group members Kelvin White, Barbara Coles and Liz Reed also read theirs. Liz also read out a contribution from Andrew Kotsoglo who couldn't be present.

Refreshments were yummy thanks to Forest Road Fresh.

And many thanks to the City of Armadale for their kind support.

Congratulations to all our competition winners. You rose to the challenge!
