UWA School of Indigenous Studies

UWA School of Indigenous Studies UWA’s School of Indigenous Studies (SIS) supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to foster their passions.

The University of Western Australia’s School of Indigenous Studies aims to achieve excellence and equity in all aspects of higher education for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. We offer pathway and diploma courses for Indigenous students, and undergraduate and Master’s degrees for Indigenous and non-Indigenous students. Our Aboriginal Orientation Course is a 14-week bridging course th

at grants entry into most undergraduate courses and runs twice a year. We also offer two undergraduate majors: the Indigenous Knowledge, History and Heritage major available through a Bachelor of Arts; and the Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing major, available in Science and run in partnership with UWA’s Medical School and the Centre for Aboriginal Medical and Dental Health (CAMDH). SIS is based at Bilya Marlee (meaning ‘river of the swan’). Here you’ll find tutoring, career advice, wellbeing and pastoral support from our Student Services team and other SIS staff, along with study facilities such as a computer lab, common room and library just for Indigenous students. If you’re a prospective or current Indigenous student, our team can help with information about university entry, scholarships, accommodation, tutoring, postgraduate studies and more. Congratulations Susan!

We were so lucky to support Suzie on her academic journey, and it is an amazing achievement to be the first Aboriginal student to graduate from the Honors Program in Archaeology 🎓

We look forward to hearing about her journey beyond University, and wish her all the best

Today is R U OK? Day, a day that reminds us of the importance of checking in with each other and starting conversations that can make a real difference.

To kick off the conversation, we invited our SIS staff and students to share some CUPCAKES 🧁
Sometimes a yarn over something sweet can be the start of feeling supported and heard.

If you are finding today or any day to be difficult, please know support is always available* 💛
