Reconciliation Week at Preston - head down for a roo burger, a yarn with the Yurrongi Centre team and a chat about what reconciliation means to you.

27/05/2026

The 2026 National Reconciliation Week's theme is 'All In'.

It is a time to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements and to consider how each of us can contribute to reconciliation in Australia. Reconciliation will not happen by itself, and it will not happen without all of us.

Former student Brett Lee (Pirritu) is a Ngiyampaa man and First Nations singer-songwriter. He reminds us to walk together on this journey and to nurture the connections we make today. The friendships you build now could become powerful supports in the years ahead.

Be all in. Join us on campus at the Reconciliation Week events, meet the Yurrongi Centre crew for a yarn and make meaningful connections with your fellow students as we take steps together for Reconciliation.

Today is National Close the Gap Day. Striving for equity in life outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, Closing the Gap is a national strategy working towards systemic changes necessary to improve First Peoples’ access to education, employment, health and wellbeing, justice, safety, housing, languages, lands and waters. The 2026 theme is: "Community Voices: The Pathway to Justice, Equality and Healing", recognising the crucial nature of First Peoples’ leadership, lived experience, and self-determined decision-making in matters addressing our life outcomes.

While Closing the Gap is largely implemented through partnerships between Australian governments and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, communities, organisations and businesses, we all have a role in achieving equity for future generations.
