Join us on Friday the 11th of September from 5:40 - 10:00PM for COUCH FEST, our lively annual arts festival, showcasing the incredible talents of music and visual arts students across multiple programs. 2026 marks our 12th year and this year’s theme is Alice in Wonderland!

Enjoy live performances from student bands across four stages and explore a dazzling exhibition of creative products available for purchase. Browse one-of-a-kind handmade goods, indulge in delicious treats and try a themed drink from our fabulous mocktail station.

The much-loved Eco Café returns with coffee, sweet treats and their famous toasties. You’ll also find a variety of food trucks including authentic Korean dishes from KIMU, delicious Mexican inspired cuisine from Taco Truck and the divine wood fired pizzas from Primo!

Remember to bring your refillable water bottles and keep cups as this is a single-use plastics free event! You can also purchase a re-usable Couch Fest water bottle, filled and chilled for $10! As it is made of sugar cane, cork and wheat straw, it is also fully biodegradable!

Event Details:

Parking: Entry via Jensen Road only. If full, parking is available at Northland Shopping Centre, or better yet, go green and use public transport

Tickets: Please pre-purchase tickets bring either a digital or printed copy for entry. QR codes and cash sales will also be available at the door if needed.

Schedule: The festival kicks off with a performance in the Auditorium. Doors open 5:40pm.

Entry: Pedestrian access via Sheila Street (limited disabled parking available). Check-in at the rear entrance of the building.

Venue rules: Strictly no smoking or va**ng anywhere on school grounds.

In preparation for a class on large format photography for Certificate IV in Photography and Digital Imaging students, NCAT teacher Luke photographed Year 11 and 12 students on 4X5 film around the college. Yesterdays Year 12 Art Immersion Workshop saw students create cyanotypes on multiple surfaces including watercolour paper and canvas tote bags. Through a process of experimentation, students made both photograms using organic materials like flowers as well as image transfers using digital images printed onto acetate. As an added bonus, we toned prints in green tea and coffee to alter the colour and hue. Well done everyone, beautiful work as always!

We are incredibly proud to announce that our very own Marcus Newman has been named as one of three finalists in the Teacher/Trainer of the Year category for the 2026 Victorian Training Awards.

When Marcus joined the Northern College of the Arts and Technology 12 years ago, he recognised the need to refresh the Creative and Digital Media program. What followed was a transformative redevelopment of the curriculum, reshaping the VET Creative and Digital Media offering into a contemporary, industry‑aligned program that evolves with technology.

Marcus teaches the VCE VET Certificate III in Screen and Media (Creative and Digital Media) and the Certificate IV in Photography and Digital Imaging. He teaches animation, web design, video production, podcasting, studio lighting and photography. He’s widely recognised for innovation and an unwavering commitment to student success.

A deliberate focus of Marcus’ work is on foundational creative principles rather than software‑specific training. This ensures that students are adaptable, future‑focused and prepared for both employment and further study. His students have achieved the highest‑ever scores of 49/50, and graduates consistently progress to leading institutions including the Victorian College of the Arts and RMIT.

Throughout the semester, Year 11 Product Design and Technology students have collaborated with Certificate IV Music students to create the outfits (including the band logo) that they’ll be touring the great ocean road in later this year. Incredible work by everyone involved, well done!

We wanted to celebrate the incredible achievements and success of two students studying a VCE VET Certificate II in Integrated Technologies at NCAT; Juan Sebastian Espinosa Lancheros and Oliver Borg, both of which were featured in 2026 VCE Season of Excellence as part of Top Designs.

During his studies at NCAT, Juan designed and produced a customisable drone, navigating project planning, timelines and problem solving to create a functioning drone. Well done Juan!

Oliver received a Premier’s VCE Award for their outstanding achievement in Units 3/4 Integrated Technology and being the only student to receive study score of 46 or higher in the state. Well done Oliver, an incredible achievement!

A big thank you to everyone who came to our Information Evening last night and for giving both students and teachers an opportunity to show off what makes NCAT such an incredible place to learn.

Tours will now be running every Wednesday at 11:00am from the 12th of August and must be pre-booked. To book a tour, please call the college on 9478 1333 and ask for our Enrolments Officer.

Another outstanding student recognised in the 2025 Premier’s VCE Awards was Isabella Mavrogiannis from the Northern College of the Arts and Technology.

Isabella was one of 8 VCE Vocational Major students recognised at the awards.

The apprentice carpenter has been working alongside experienced tradespeople as part of her VCE VM studies.

Congratulations to NCAT’s Isabella Mavrogiannis who has received a Premier’s VCE Award for their outstanding VCE VM results in 2025.

Isabella excelled across all areas of the VCE Vocational Major program. She consistently produced work of the highest standard and demonstrated leadership, initiative, and a strong commitment to her learning and future pathway. Throughout the program, she strengthened her employability skills, actively pursued pathway opportunities, and made a meaningful impact on both the school and wider community.

As an active member of, and ambassador for, the Young Women in Trades and Technology (YWTT) group, Isabella supported and mentored younger female students, and helped plan and run whole-school activities. She represented Northern College of the Arts and Technology at other schools, industry expos, community events and assemblies, always displaying confidence and professionalism. She also led school tours for prospective families and served as the building and construction spokesperson at information evenings, demonstrating excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Her excellence extended to the Certificate II in Building and Construction, where she contributed significantly to multiple projects. Isabella supported VET plumbing by building wall frames for pipe installation training and completed painting and maintenance tasks in the sport area. She also showed initiative, teamwork, leadership and project management skills, including leading a team to plan and construct walls for the VET Electro program, improving the delivery of the Fix and Secure Unit of Competency. She delegated tasks, solved problems and ensured the project met deadlines and quality standards.
