Congratulations to the winners of the 2026 National High School Mooting Competition! 🏆

The Faculty of Law is delighted to announce that Prince Alfred College has taken out first place after a thrilling Grand Final! Heights College were worthy runners-up, and Cranbrook School placed third — a fantastic achievement.

This year’s competition saw 62 schools and nearly 200 students from across Australia showcase their advocacy skills, legal reasoning, and teamwork.

Every student who participated should be incredibly proud of their effort and dedication. A sincere thank you to the teachers and coaches whose guidance and support contributed to their students’ achievements.

Your commitment plays a vital role in nurturing the next generation of legal minds.

We look forward to welcoming schools back to the competition in 2027 for another exciting year!

We were so proud to welcome almost 400 high school students from 38 different schools to participate in the 2026 Bond University High School Model United Nations!

This milestone year was our biggest BUHMUN ever, bringing back teachers who participated in BUHMUN when they were students!
The 2026 conference focused on two Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) SDG 4 – Quality Education and SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities.

The conference challenged delegates to examine the governance of rapidly developing technologies, exploring how technological advancement can be harnessed and regulated to enhance human development, protect cultural heritage, safeguard civilians and critical infrastructure, and build inclusive, resilient communities.

We welcomed Bond alumna Zoe O’Dwyer to campus all the way from London, where she works as a Senior Manager in Deloitte’s Global Purpose and Sustainability Office. Zoe encouraged the students to take on board all opportunities like BUHMUN and gave students a taste of the Bond network.

A big congratulations to all students and teachers involved, including our award-winning schools, Trinity Lutheran College and Assisi Catholic College, Coomera.

Bond University was well represented at last week’s Queensland Law Society Annual Gold Coast Legal Conference, leading discussions on two of the profession’s most pressing topics: practitioner wellbeing and the practical application of artificial intelligence.

Dr Cher McGillivray, Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Society and Design, captured the attention of the room with her compelling keynote address on practical stress management and self‑care strategies tailored for legal practitioners.

Her presentation equipped attendees with tools to manage stress arising from workload pressures, maintain wellbeing, and build resilience—recognising that effective self‑care is becoming increasingly essential in light of the evolving legislative obligations placed on legal practitioners in Queensland. Dr McGillivray highlighted the importance of ongoing self‑care and seeking support early if the challenges of legal practice become overwhelming.

Professor Nick James, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Law, then led a highly topical panel discussion titled From All‑Nighters to Algorithms: Smarter Lawyering with AI. The discussion focused on practical, hands‑on approaches to using AI in everyday legal work. Panellists shared simple, real‑world examples of how lawyers can use AI to streamline aspects of their practice, highlighting what works, what doesn’t, and how the technology can be used efficiently, ethically, and responsibly.

The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) Surgical Skills Competition returned this year for the first time since 2019, with Bond University Surgical Society and Griffith’s Surgia collaborating to host one of the Queensland regional finals ahead of the state event in Brisbane this July.

Following weeks of preparation and training, students competed in a written examination modelled on the Generic Surgical Sciences Exam, alongside practical surgical skills stations including subcuticular suturing, advanced wound closure, hand tying and laparoscopic skills.

Congratulations to Griffith on a narrow overall win, and best of luck to the top-ranked students from both universities who will go on to represent the region at the Brisbane state finals 👏

Last week, we welcomed students to our inaugural Enterprise AI in Action Experience Day, giving them the opportunity to get hands-on with the technologies, tools and ideas shaping the future of work.

A special thank you to Dr Afrooz for leading a series of engaging practical sessions, helping students experience firsthand how artificial intelligence can be applied to solve real business challenges.

Most importantly, thank you to the students who joined us for this first experience day. Your curiosity, creativity and willingness to embrace emerging technologies made the day such a success.

The event forms part of the launch of Bond University's new Enterprise Artificial Intelligence program suite, with both undergraduate and postgraduate study options designed to equip the next generation of leaders with the skills to harness AI strategically, responsibly and effectively across business and industry.

The future of AI isn't just about technology. It's about people who can turn innovation into impact, and we're excited to be part of that journey.

Bond University was proud to host the 2026 SEQ Emergency Medicine Competition last month, welcoming 19 teams and 95 medical students from Bond, Griffith, JCU and UQ for an action-packed day of learning, teamwork and clinical excellence.

The event opened with an inspiring keynote from Associate Professor Bhavik Patel - General and Trauma Surgeon, Director of Trauma Services at Gold Coast Health, and researcher with the National Trauma Research Institute.

Drawing on his experience across Australia, the US and India, Associate Professor Patel highlighted the importance of high-quality teamwork in complex acute healthcare settings.

Students competed across a range of emergency medicine simulation stations, managing challenging presentations including paediatric emergencies, trauma resuscitation, cannulation and intubation. The top four teams advanced to elimination finals, where they tackled dynamic multi-patient emergency scenarios under pressure.

Congratulations to UQ Team 1 for taking out the overall win! 👏

Bond has a new home in Brisbane, Level 26, 240 Queen Street.

It was created to expand the Bond experience to professionals in and around Brisbane. The space is home to executive education, short courses, events and programs like the LLM in Enterprise Governance, it’s a space designed for practical, career-relevant learning.

An incredible honour for a young changemaker 👏

Bachelor of Laws student and Bond Excellence Scholarship recipient Ruby Allen has been recognised at the Gold Coast council’s Australian of the Year Awards ceremony.

Ruby is the founder of Kids of Purple, a not-for-profit dedicated to supporting young people experiencing domestic and family violence. What began as an idea in high school and nurtured through Bond’s Transformer program has grown into a powerful platform for advocacy and accessible support.

Following this recognition, Ruby will now be put forward for the national Australian of the Year Awards. We’re proud to see the meaningful change she continues to drive in our community.
