“Gender equality, for me, isn’t just about a future for the next generation of women leaders – it is about the next generation, period.”

This , UQ’s alumni magazine Contact talked with Julie McKay (Bachelor of Arts / Bachelor of Business Management ’04), Director of Full Harvest Advisory and former Executive Director of UN Women Australia, to share her advice on empowering women and girls for future generations.

“The one thing I think we can all do, and need to do this IWD, is push back on the anti-diversity sentiment creeping in. Seek to understand different people’s attitudes, seek to dispel myths with data, seek to create a shared vision where every individual can see a future for themselves that is safe, secure and fulfilling, with gender equality at the centre of decision making,” she said.

“If we aren’t willing to have the dinner table conversations, the workplace conversations, the public conversations, then I think we are doing a disservice to the next generation, but also to all the people who have gone before and fought for progress.”
