It was a privilege to celebrate our QATSIF graduands here at UniSC last Wednesday, recognising their achievements, resilience and the bright futures ahead of them. We are honoured to host this celebration each year and to play even a small part in the journeys of these remarkable students as they reach this important milestone. We also acknowledge the extraordinary dedication of QATSIF Director, Mike Nayler, who will retire from QATSIF at the end of this year. Mike has worked tirelessly to honour the legacy of Aunty Ruth Hegarty and ensure that the experiences of those who were victims of stolen wages are remembered, respected, and continue to shape the work of QATSIF. We thank Mike for his remarkable contribution and wish him every happiness in his retirement QATSIF

On 3 June, Australians commemorate Mabo Day, marking the anniversary of the historic Mabo decision.

Eddie Mabo of Mer island in the Torres Strait spent a decade seeking official recognition of his people’s ownership of Mer and on 3 June 1992, the High Court of Australia agreed, rejecting the doctrine that Australia was terra nullius (land belonging to no-one) at the time of European settlement.
