The Faculty of Fine Arts and Music at the University of Melbourne is the proud home of the Victorian College of the Arts and Melbourne Conservatorium of Music.

The Faculty of Fine Arts and Music is located at the University of Melbourne Southbank Campus. With classes and facilities in the heart of Melbourne’s Arts Precinct and cultural centre, our students enjoy many wonderful opportunities to participate in the artistic life of Melbourne. With such an array of events on their doorstep, our students are regular attendees at exhibitions, performances, rehearsals, masterclasses and other significant events in Melbourne's cultural calendar.

We're excited to share that The University of Melbourne has formalised a new partnership with ILBIJERRI Theatre Company to amplify our shared commitment to fostering First Peoples artistic excellence. This is a new chapter in a long history of collaboration between our organisations.

To celebrate the new partnership, we hosted a launch event together featuring a performance of ‘Gunawarra Recreation' by Isobel Morphy-Walsh. This was followed by a panel discussion highlighting our shared commitment to building professional career pathways for First Nations performing arts practitioners.

Seven emerging artists have been selected for the latest round of VCA50 Creative Development Grants 👏

Supporting recent Victorian College of the Arts alumni across performance, visual art, design, theatre, and film and television, these grants offer support for early-career artists to develop new creative projects and build sustainable pathways into the arts.

A city in motion, under a sunrise that never ends 🌅

Our VCA Acting and Design & Production students brought Dr Raimondo Cortese’s 'St Kilda Tales' to the stage, directed by Alice Qin, inspired by the Melbourne suburb that shares its name.

Following the pulse of St Kilda, the production follows an atomic swirl of characters from all walks of life as they wander, clash, connect and drift apart.

For Violet Gala, portraiture has been a way to carry her grandmother's stories forward.

As a Victorian College of the Arts student commissioned for Wilin Connect, Violet's practice centres on female portraiture shaped by time on Country and the relationships between women, animals and nature.

Wilin Connect is a collaboration between Wilin Centre for Indigenous Arts and Cultural Development, Melbourne Connect and Lendlease, honouring connection, culture and community through visual storytelling.

See Violet's work, along with three other extraordinary artists, on display across the mezzanine level at Melbourne Connect until 4 September 2026.
